🎆 Salute to the USA 🎆

The Town of Avon is excited to kick off Independence Day weekend on July 3 in Avon and celebrate with our community! This milestone year celebrates the 40th annual Salute to the USA, along with Colorado’s 150th and our nation’s 250th anniversaries.

Currently, the Town is planning to move forward with launching the fireworks display on July 3.

Town of Avon has spent considerable time discussing and evaluating safety considerations, including recent weather patterns, forecasting, and our unique lakeside venue. Safety protocols are in place, such as reducing the display to 4-inch shells, mowing and clearing vegetation along the railroad corridor, and watering those areas with non-potable water both the day before and the day of the event.

The safety of our residents and guests remains our highest priority. The Town will continue to assess conditions in coordination with our fireworks vendor and our fire district partners.

🚗 Traffic Exit Plan 🚌
To improve the post-event experience and reduce traffic delays, the Avon Police Department will be implementing a new traffic management plan this year.

In 2026 the plan is as follows:
➡ Traffic exiting from West Beaver Creek Boulevard will be directed westbound only onto U.S. Highway 6.
➡ Traffic exiting from Beaver Creek/Bear Lots area will be directed eastbound only onto U.S. Highway 6. No westbound turns will be permitted.
➡ Traffic will not be allowed to travel north on Avon Road and will instead be directed to continue north on Post Boulevard, where motorists can then travel east or west.
➡ An officer will be stationed at the new traffic signal near Stonebridge (Eaglebend Drive) to help maintain a steady flow of eastbound traffic.

You can expect updates in the weeks and days leading to the event. Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we work to provide a safe and enjoyable celebration for everyone.

🚔 The Avon Police Department Launches the Blue Envelope Program 🚔
The Avon Police Department is proud to introduce the Blue Envelope Program, designed to help reduce stress, anxiety and miscommunication during traffic stops for members of our community who may face challenges related to disabilities, including autism, neurodivergence, hearing impairments, invisible disabilities and other communication needs.
This is a voluntary program. We will not keep a participant list or store any data relate to your information.
The Blue Envelope provides a simple way for drivers to communicate important information to law enforcement officers. During a traffic stop, the driver can hand the envelope to the officer, who can then review the information and better understand the individual's specific needs and circumstances.
How to get a Blue Envelope:
📍 Visit the Avon Police Department at:
60 Buck Creek Road, Avon, CO 81620
Monday–Friday during regular business hours
📞 Call: (970) 748-4040
📧 Or request materials by mail (free of charge) by emailing: [email protected] with your mailing address.
Helpful Tips for Completing Your Blue Envelope:
• Share as much or as little information as you feel comfortable providing. More information can help first responders better assist you.
• Emergency contact information will only be used with your permission, or in the event of a crash or medical emergency when you are unable to communicate.
• Use the notes section to provide details that may help responders, such as:
• “Reads lips” for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing
• Information about sensory sensitivities or effective ways to respond during a meltdown
• Medical information such as medication allergies, DNR instructions, or other important emergency details
A special thank you to the Boulder Police Department for their informative video and for championing this valuable program.

De-escalation, understanding, and compassion are critical when serving community members experiencing mental and behavioral health challenges. Avon PD continues to invest in our staff by ensuring all officers and code enforcement officers receive Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training.

Last week, Officer Lucero, Officer Lucas, and Code Enforcement Officer Niesman completed an intensive 40-hour CIT course hosted by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (Thank you!) The training focused on the many challenges individuals in crisis may face and how first responders can best communicate, respond, and provide support during those difficult moments.

The course included realistic scenario-based exercises with professional actors simulating real-life encounters, helping participants develop practical de-escalation and crisis response skills.

With this latest class, Avon PD has now achieved 100% CIT training for all officers.
