Joel's Place for Children We provide grief support for school-aged children and their families who have experienced the death of someone special.

Joel’s Place for Children was founded and operates on the belief that it is helpful and healing for grieving children to share their stories, memories, experiences, thoughts, and feelings with other grieving children. Children can express feelings, share memories and honor their loved one in a supportive and hope-filled environment. Joel’s Place has no religious affiliation; families of all faiths

are welcome to attend. Joel’s Place for Children, founded in 2003, provides FREE peer-based grief support groups for school-aged children and their families who have experienced the death of someone special. Groups are led by trained volunteer facilitators and consist of age/developmental-appropriate activities and discussion in separate groups for children, teens and caregivers. We meet every other Tuesday during the school year (with a Holiday break) & offer a Butterfly Release every July. Groups meet at Bay Presbyterian Church in Bay Village. Joel’s Place for Children does not offer therapy or counseling. We are a Dougy Center model organization whose trained group leaders are active within the National Alliance for Grieving Children for continuing education, best practices and industry networking. In Cleveland, we are so lucky to have incredible medical resources so close. 🏩 UH, Akron and Cleveland Clinic all have versions of bereavement support and grief therapy - please find what works best for you!

Keep in mind that we are always FREE and open to all school aged children & their caregivers. No questions about insurance and you can enroll anytime. We are here when you need us. 💌

Who else needs a full, deep, slow breath?

For some of us the hardest days are over, hoping most of you can finally breathe now. If you can - or if you can’t but need to - take a collective deep breath with us today.

Really take a moment to sit. Focus on anything positive or good in your life or the life of someone you love. Try to find something ever so small that turns up the corners of your lips.

Now, pull all the air in you can. Feel it deep into your chest, lungs, heart…soul even. Then push out any of the bad feelings you have been having over these past weeks. Force out the pain, the loneliness, the yearning, until you’re empty. Repeat for attempts at relief.

Know we are with you, sending love 🤍

All joking aside, the holidays can feel like losing someone all over again.

We experience:
•sadness
•heartbreak
•loneliness
•joy
•anger
•nostalgia
•even moments where it feels like our loved one is still there

Remember your people who are missing someone this season, and if you are missing someone, don’t be afraid to ask for some support. 🙋🏾
