Day 6 of 2026 EMS Week is EMS Recognition Day. As we close out this year’s EMS Week, we extend our deepest gratitude to the mentors, leaders, partners, and teammates who have shaped us, challenged us, and inspired us to become better EMS professionals every day.

EMS is a profession built on compassion, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication. While the work is often demanding, it is equally rewarding. The call to serve can be powerful, and the passion for this profession creates bonds that last a lifetime.

At the heart of EMS are the people — the individuals who stand beside us, support us, and remind us why we answer the call. They are the reason this profession means so much to all of us.

Day 5 of EMS Week is Save-A-Life Day, focused on educating the public about the importance of EMS and CPR. Bystander CPR can make the difference between life and death during a cardiac emergency. If needed, emergency dispatchers can provide step-by-step instructions over the phone. Hands-Only CPR — continuous chest compressions without rescue breaths — is recommended for untrained bystanders and can help save lives. You do not need to be CPR certified to help someone in need.

Avon Fire offers CPR certifications if needed for employment or schooling. Visit www.avonfd.org for more information.

Day 4 of EMS Week 2026 recognizes Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC) Day. Today, we honor the EMS clinicians who provide compassionate, skilled care to children during emergencies and who continually prepare for the unique challenges of pediatric patients.

Caring for children in emergency situations requires specialized knowledge and training, as pediatric patients have medical needs that differ significantly from adults. From airway management and medication dosing to communication and emotional support, EMS professionals must be prepared to respond with precision, patience, and compassion.

On EMSC Day, we recognize the dedication of EMS personnel who work tirelessly to ensure children receive the highest quality emergency care when they need it most.
