✨ Exciting News for Trail Visitors! ✨
We’re thrilled to share that new directional signage has been installed along the White Lick Trail and throughout Blue Heron Park!

Thanks to generous grants from Duke Energy and the Parks Foundation of Hendricks County we’ve officially completed the first phase of our Trail Safety & Signage Project. This project was designed to improve wayfinding for trail users and provide a clear system to help first responders quickly locate 911 callers in emergencies. What does this mean for you?

👟 Large wayfinding signs featuring color-coded trail maps, distances, “You Are Here” markers, and QR codes linking to a web based map
👟 Color-coded mile markers placed every quarter mile
👟 Coordinated trail striping across more than 5 miles of trail
👟 Directional signage connecting Blue Heron Park and the White Lick Trail
👟 Signage guiding you to Apex and the Foundation ballfields
👟 Landmark signage with names at all park shelters
👟 Newly named trails throughout Blue Heron Park

The Avon Community Garden is officially in season!

This year, we are excited to continue growing both our garden and our community. Thanks to the incredible support from our gardeners, community members, and the generous support of All Terrain Landscape and Snow Management we were able to expand the Avon Community Garden and add new features including solar power and powered water pumps for our water tanks.

We are also proud to announce that all community garden plots are completely sold out again this year. We want to welcome both our returning gardeners and all of the new faces joining us this season.

The Community Garden is about more than just planting vegetables. It is a place where neighbors connect, knowledge is shared, friendships are built, and the community grows together. We look forward to sharing the progress, harvests, and stories from the garden throughout the season.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support and believe in this growing community space. Here’s to a great gardening season in Avon!

🏓 THE PICKLE PATCH 🏓

This past Thursday afternoon, we officially broke ground on The Pickle Patch — The Town of Avon’s future outdoor pickleball park!

Located at 180 S. Avon Ave., in the parking lot area of Evergreen Elementary, The Pickle Patch will feature:
• 8 outdoor pickleball courts
• Shade structures
• Restroom facilities

The Pickle Patch is made possible through a generous land donation from the Avon Community School Corporation on the site that previously housed the former high school tennis courts.

As pickleball continues to grow in popularity, this new space will provide residents and visitors with another opportunity to stay active, connect with others, and enjoy recreation right here in the Town of Avon.

We’re excited to watch this project come to life and can’t wait to see the courts full of players soon!

We’re excited to share that we’ve received a grant from the Parks Foundation of Hendricks County to support Avon’s Trail Safety Initiative! 🎉

This initiative adds new trail signage, mile markers, and color‑coded identification to help make our trails safer and easier to navigate for everyone- and easier for our first responders to locate you in case of an emergency. The first phase is already underway, so keep an eye out for new signs and wayfinding improvements along the White Lick Trail and throughout Blue Heron Park.

Thank you to the Parks Foundation of Hendricks County for investing in a safer, more connected Avon! 🌿🚶‍♀️🚴‍♂️ Congratulations to all the other grant recipients, and thank you to Washington Township Park for this great group photo!

Apparently this morning’s theme was “wildlife chaos.”

It all started with a beautiful little golden finch that broke into the maintenance barn, immediately flew into a window, and briefly questioned all of its life choices. Luckily, it recovered while perched on my finger—giving me my life-long wish to be Cinderella for 5 minutes —before realizing it could, in fact, still fly and dramatically departing into the trees. ✨🐦 Unfortunately, I was so enchanted by the encounter that there are no pictures of my golden moment.

THEN... while minding our business on a routine trail check, a crawdad chose violence. Somehow he ended up in the middle of the trail roadway, and when we tried to help es**rt him back to the muddy area, he was not interested.

HE THREW CLAWS!

He put up a fight, and nearly stole our phone for ransom. 🦞📱

All things considered—avian recovery, royal woodland vibes, and an attempted crawdad mugging—today was a good day.

What a great week celebrating Arbor Day and our community! 🌳

Last week, we were proud to host our 19th Arbor Day event at Avon High School, where students helped plant a Red Sunset Maple and learned firsthand why trees matter. Arbor Day reminds us how important it is to invest in our environment for future generations, and it is always great to see young people take part in that effort.

We also had an amazing weekend at our Trailmixer Festival, with so many people coming out to enjoy the outdoors, explore our trails, and connect with the community. Events like this highlight just how special our parks and green spaces are.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make both events such a success. 🌿
