Significant winter storm to impact our area Sunday-Monday. Please make all necessary preparations before Sunday afternoon. The below is shared from Richard Cuttrell and Tri-state Storm Watch.

FEBRUARY 21st – 9:00 a.m.

BLIZZARD WARNINGS ARE POSTED FOR THE NEW JERSEY COASTAL COUNTIES, NEW YORK CITY AND LONG ISLAND. A WINTER STORM WARNING IS POSTED FOR INLAND COUNTIES. A COASTAL FLOOD WATCH IS ALSO IN EFFECT ALONG THE COAST.

A massive snowstorm with blizzard conditions will impact our area Sunday afternoon through Monday afternoon.

TIMING – A mix of snow and rain will develop throughout the area on Sunday morning. During the morning hours, snow will likely not accumulate on road surfaces. As precipitation starts to become heavier Sunday afternoon, snow will begin accumulating. It may take until mid-afternoon for accumulations to take hold along the coast. Any necessary travel should be done in the morning hours.

The main show will be sunset Sunday to sunrise Monday morning when the majority of the snow accumulations will occur. Snow will be heavy at times through the night with increasing north to northeast winds causing blowing and drifting snow and near zero visibility at times.

Snow will continue on Monday at varying intensities and may persist well into Monday afternoon as the strong area of low pressure offshore will be slow to depart eastward.

WIND – East-northeast winds Sunday morning will become more northeast in the afternoon and increase to 20 to 30 mph by evening. Sunday night winds will increase from the northeast and then become more northerly by around midnight with gusts to 50 mph along the coast and 40 mph inland. Gusty north-northwest winds will continue on Monday and only slowly subside toward Monday evening.

COASTAL FLOODING – There is one high tide of concern which occurs around midnight Sunday night. This is a very deep/strong area of low pressure so moderate coastal flooding in expected. Two things working in our favor are lower astronomical tides and the idea that winds will be more north-northeast by midnight Sunday night versus a more concerning easterly direction. The usual roadways will flood and residents in those areas should take the usual steps to prepare for moderate coastal flooding. There could be some minor coastal flooding around Noon on Monday.

SNOW ACCUMULATIONS – Let’s face it….this is what you are really want to see!!

Monmouth and Ocean Counties/all of southern NJ/Long Island – 14 to 24 inches (maybe a bit less along the immediate southeast coast)

Philly/Mercer and Middlesex Counties/northern NJ/NYC metro/coastal CT – 10 to 18 inches
