We have started flushing in zone 8 of the city. This area is highlighted in blue. If you live in this area you may notice some discoloration in your water. Simply run your water until clear to avoid any issues with laundry, etc. If you notice the discolored water in your laundry, simply stop your washer and contact Avon Lake Regional Water for assistance. Contact the Fire Department for any questions. We will keep you updated as we change zones. Red Zones have not been completed.

Stay safe during winter weather. With temperatures dropping significantly, it's important to take prepare to stay safe and comfortable. Below are essential tips to help you navigate these conditions.

- Limit time outdoors
- If you must go outside, dress in layers, including a moisture-wicking base layer, an insulating middle layer, and a waterproof outer layer. Don't forget a hat and gloves.
- Keep an extra eye on pets, and limit their time in the cold.
- Check in on neighbors. The elderly, children, and those with medical conditions are more vulnerable to extreme cold.

Being prepared is the key. Below are some tips to help you prepare for extreme winter weather:

- Flashlights and extra batteries
- Battery-operated radio and extra batteries
- Chargers or an extra power bank
- Emergency non-perishable foods that do not require refrigeration
- Non-electric can opener
- Bottled water
- A supply of essential medicines
- Extra blankets and sleeping bags
- First aid kit and manual
- Emergency Car kit, including: jumper cables, sand or kitty litter, and keep a full tank of gas.

The Anchor Recreation Facility, 33483 Lake Road, will be open Monday and Tuesday, January 20th and 21st, from 8:00am to 10:00pm. This facility can be used as a temporary warming shelter for anyone in need of relief from the cold. Please feel free to stop in for a safe and warm place during this extreme cold weather.

The United Way has activated their extreme weather plan and has resources in place to assist those in need. The combination of freezing temperatures and gusty winds can pose serious health risks.
