The National Weather Service in Peachtree City has issued a Heat Advisory for our area through Saturday afternoon.

With the Labor Day weekend upon us, we highly encourage everyone to take precautions and stay safe in the heat.

Stay hydrated and drink plenty of water throughout the day.
If you’re working outdoors, take regular breaks in cool, shaded areas.
If you’re spending the weekend outdoors, celebrating, or cooking for the holiday, remember to take frequent breaks, stay hydrated, and watch for signs of heat-related illness.

Please take care of yourself, your family, and your neighbors this weekend.

🎉 We have officially hit 1.5K followers! 🎉

We are so excited to celebrate this milestone with all of you because you’re the ones who made it possible!

Two years ago, we decided we wanted to make the most of our platform by bringing you more of what happens behind the scenes at the station, showcasing our firefighters and their hard work, sharing information about emergency situations happening in our area, and providing important weather alerts and updates.

Over the past two years, we’ve loved sharing this new content with you, and we hope you’ve enjoyed following along! We can’t wait to continue bringing you even more behind-the-scenes moments, important information, and updates from our station.

On August 25, 2026, at approximately 10:12 PM, Chief Mathis received a phone call from a local resident reporting that one of the controlled burns in our area had possibly broken containment. The resident requested that the fire department respond to investigate and ensure the fire was still contained. Chief Mathis then notified our firefighters and dispatch of the situation.

Avera Tanker-3 and Avera-305 (our brush truck) responded to the area non-emergent, as this was initially reported as an investigation and there were no structures or immediate danger to the public.

Upon arrival, Tanker-3 discovered that the fire had in fact broken containment and was burning toward the power line right-of-way. A small head fire was present, but it was beginning to build and move quickly. The Georgia Forestry Commission was contacted at that time.

Avera-305 arrived on scene seconds later and quickly assembled a crew of three firefighters. The crew moved in on the fire, and once they reached the head fire, a two-person handline team was deployed. The firefighters were able to quickly stop the fire’s forward progress and extinguish the head fire, preventing any further growth.

The fire was brought under control within minutes, quickly and safely. The Georgia Forestry Commission arrived on scene and plowed a firebreak around the area, followed by a backburn to further secure the fire. Our department remained on scene to provide water support to Forestry personnel in case it was needed.

We would like to thank the Georgia Forestry Commission for their assistance and partnership in making sure this fire remained contained.

We also want to thank the local resident who reported the situation. Early notification played an important role in allowing crews to respond before the fire could grow into a larger incident.

We would like to encourage everyone to please sign up for this service. It’s completely free and is a great way to receive important alerts and notifications in real time.

This service is also extremely helpful for emergency agencies, including fire departments and law enforcement agencies throughout the county. It gives us another way to quickly notify the public during emergency situations, including shelter-in-place orders, evacuation notices, and other critical emergency information.

It also provides important weather alerts to help keep you and your family informed when severe weather is approaching.

While we do our best to keep everyone informed through social media, unfortunately, not everyone uses social media, and even those who do may not see a post in time. Having these alerts sent directly to you provides an additional layer of communication when seconds can matter.

We highly encourage everyone to take advantage of this free service and sign up today!

More Information on the Crafting His Harvest Festival! 🎃🍂

We are still looking for vendors, and we have plenty of room available! The vendor registration deadline is October 25th, but we wanted to get this information out as soon as possible so everyone has plenty of time to sign up.

Vendor Information:

* There is no vendor fee to participate.
* If a vendor would like to make a donation in place of a vendor fee, the donation will be split 50/50 between the fire department and Walden’s Church.
* Vendor spaces are first come, first served.
* Part of the festival will be located in the Town Square, which is asphalt, while the other portion will be located in the City Park, which is grass.

How to Register:

All vendors must complete the registration form. The link to the form is provided below.

Once completed, please send a copy of the registration form to Casey Mumford using the contact information provided below, or you may send it to the fire department email listed below.

The Avera Fire Department, alongside Waldens Church, is excited to invite our community to the Crafting His Harvest Festival on Saturday, October 31st, 2026!

📍 Downtown Avera, GA

🛍️ DAYTIME FESTIVAL | 8 AM – 4 PM
Come out and enjoy a great day in downtown Avera featuring:
• Local vendors & handmade crafts
• Festival food
• Family-friendly activities
• Fire Department lunch plates — available until they’re gone! 🚒🍽️

🎃 TRUNK-OR-TREAT | STARTING AT 6 PM
Members of Waldens Church will be hosting a safe, family-friendly Trunk-or-Treat for the community in Avera’s town square! The fire department will be there as well. Bring the kids, dress them up, and come enjoy an evening of Halloween fun. 🍬👻

🛍️ LOCAL VENDORS WANTED!
There are NO BOOTH FEES! Instead, vendors are asked to make a donation to support Waldens Church & Avera Fire Department. Proceeds will be split 50/50 between the two organizations.
