Thank you to everyone who joined us tonight for Avenal’s Su***de Prevention Walk. 💜

A special thank you to Kings Partnership for Prevention for all the work, coordination, and care that went into making this event happen. We’re grateful to everyone who showed up, walked with us, shared resources, volunteered, and helped create a space focused on hope, support, and community.

Tonight was also a reminder that su***de prevention is not just about what we say at an event like this — it is also about how we treat people every day.

We can disagree. We can criticize. We can have different opinions.

But disagreement never requires cruelty.

We never truly know what someone else is carrying. Our words matter. Our actions matter. And the way we treat one another matters.

Thank you, Avenal, for showing up for one another. 💜

🇺🇸❤️ Thank you to everyone who joined us as we remembered the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001.

Avenal Fire and the Avenal Police Department came together to create a moment of unity, reflection, and remembrance for our community. 🚒🚓 We are especially grateful to Officer Anthony Guerra for leading us in prayer, and to Shara Tuttle and Chief Jacob McAfee for sharing their experiences and reflections.

Thank you to everyone who stood with us for the moment of silence. 🕯️

As Chief McAfee reminded us, September 11 does not simply live in the history books. Its stories must continue to be told, shared, and remembered — especially with generations who did not experience that day themselves.

Avenal will remember. We will never forget. 🇺🇸

Avenal recuerda. Nunca olvidaremos. 🇺🇸

🇺🇸 SEPTEMBER 11, 2001

Twenty-five years ago, America watched an ordinary morning become a day we would never forget.

For the fire service, September 11 carries a particular weight.

343 firefighters walked into something most people were desperately trying to escape.

They climbed.

Floor after floor.
Carrying tools, hose, medical equipment, and the responsibility that comes with raising your hand and saying, “Send me.”

They did not know how the day would end.

They only knew people needed them.

That is service.

That is duty.

That is what this profession asks of us.

Twenty-five years later, most of today’s firefighters never stood at Ground Zero. Some were children. Some were not even born yet. But every one of us inherited something from those who answered that morning.

We inherited the responsibility to remember.

To train harder.

To take care of our crews.

To serve our communities with humility.

To be worthy of the uniform when someone calls 911 on the worst day of their life.

Today, the Avenal Fire Department remembers the 2,977 lives lost on September 11, 2001, including 343 members of the FDNY, along with the countless first responders, military members, families, and survivors whose lives were forever changed.

We honor them not simply by lowering our flags or posting their names.

We honor them by how we live.

By how we serve.

By answering the call.

And when the moment comes, by being willing to climb.

343. Never forgotten.

We Remember. We Honor. We Serve.
