AVALON, NJ: May 4, 2026. Members from the Avalon Volunteer Fire Department conducted a weekly drill in an acquired structure on 59th Street for a second time.

Members performed with Roof-Operations scenarios and practiced different techniques for opening roofs. This structure included a section of flat tar roof, much less common in our local.

A week earlier (not pictured) members conducted fire attack, hose line advancement, search and rescue and VEIS training at the same address.

The economy of Avalon creates an opportunity for the firefighters to train in acquired structures, houses scheduled for demolition that are made available by the owner just before they are torn down.

This home was owned my the family of a deceased exempt member, and wanted to honor his service by allowing us to train there.
