This is important information from the Avalon office of emergency management.

On the morning of Saturday, June 27th, a triathlon will be held in Avalon involving adults and children biking at high rates of speed.

Traffic safety officers will be stationed at most intersections determining when it will be safe for motor vehicle traffic to cross intersections.

The bicyclists should be off both Dune Drive and First Avenue by 9:00am, and off Avalon Avenue by 9:45am.

Please use extreme caution, limit unnecessary travel, and obey all orders of the traffic safety officers.

The Swimming and Running portion of this race occurs on the beach, and is not a hazard to vehicle traffic.

SHADES OF THE BICENTENNIAL ON AVALON BLVD...THE SUMMER OF'76

Did you notice the new Jim Leahy sign on Avalon Blvd.? It's an exact replica of the sign that Jim painted and posted back in June 1976 in celebration of the nation's bicentennial. Now, it's been brought back to celebrate our country's 250th. And that means the Avalon History Center is giving away free collectable versions of the sign. Each card is individually numbered and part of a four-card set. What a great way to begin your own Avalon Memorabilia collection! This July version is sure to become one of the most sought-after Avalon collectables. You can have copy simply by visiting the Avalon History Center, while supplies last. and it's all compliments of the Avalon Historical Society, The Avalon Free Library and the Borough of Avalon. Stop by the History Center today, inquire if any of the cards from series 1 or 2 cards are still available. Collect a whole set of all four cards. One card per person per visit. REMINDER: PLEASE PLACE RECYCLABLES "LOOSE" IN YOUR AVALON WASTE CART FOR COLLECTION

The County's processing facility does not accept recyclable products placed in plastic bags. Avalon's contracted waste removal company will not empty recycling carts that contain recyclables in plastic bags. Simply place recyclables loose in the carts, and your recycling will be collected. Thank you for keeping Avalon green and clean!

Once endangered, they can now be seen nesting all throughout the state during the spring and summer. This presentation will discuss the story of the Osprey, what caused their demise and comeback, and the challenges they still face today.

[2 PM Monday]: A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for DE, MD, and portions of NJ and PA until 9 PM. Storms will be capable of producing locally damaging wind gusts, hail, and locally heavy rainfall. A brief tornado cannot be ruled out.
