EMDR can sound intimidating if you’ve never heard about it before.

But at its core, EMDR is a therapy approach that helps people process and heal from painful or distressing experiences.

Many clients come to EMDR feeling stuck in patterns of anxiety, overwhelm, trauma responses, or emotional pain.

Healing does not mean forgetting what happened.

It means your nervous system no longer has to carry it in the same way.

At COAC, we approach EMDR with care, collaboration, and nervous system safety at the center of the process. ✨

Feeling seen matters.

Especially in therapy.

Representation and culturally responsive care can deeply impact whether someone feels emotionally safe enough to open up and heal.

At COAC, we believe therapy should honor culture, identity, lived experience, family systems, and the many layers that shape who we are.

Everyone deserves care that feels affirming, respectful, and human.

You deserve to feel understood in the therapy room.

Trauma is not only stored in memories.

It can also live in the body.

In tension.
In exhaustion.
In hypervigilance.
In numbness.
In survival responses that once helped keep you safe.

Somatic healing helps us reconnect with the nervous system in gentle, supportive ways.

Healing is not about forcing yourself to ‘move on.’

It’s about creating safety within your body again. 🤎

Starting therapy can feel intimidating.

If you’ve ever wondered:
• ‘What do I even talk about?’
• ‘What if I cry?’
• ‘How do I know if therapy is right for me?’
• ‘What if I don’t know where to start?’

You are not alone.

Therapy is not about having the ‘perfect’ words.

It’s about having a space where you get to show up honestly.

We hope this answers a few common questions we hear often. ✨

We were honored to be part of the Lopez Scholars Leadership Summit this week 💛

The summit brought together first-generation Latino students following their first year of college for a day of learning, connection, and inspiration from professionals across a variety of fields.

Our team had the opportunity to share resources, connect with students, and support this incredible event. We’re always grateful for opportunities to be in spaces that invest in the growth, leadership, and well-being of young people in our community.

Thank you to the Lopez Scholars Program for having us!

As Mental Health Awareness Month comes to a close, we’re feeling grateful for the team behind COAC. 🤍

Our clinicians, interns, and staff bring a wide range of identities, experiences, specialties, and perspectives to this work. Together, we’re committed to creating spaces where people feel seen, supported, understood, and connected.

Whether through therapy, community partnerships, workshops, groups, outreach, or education, we’re grateful for the opportunity to support our community every day.

Thank you to our team, our clients, and our community for being part of the conversation.

Boundaries are not punishment.

They are communication.

They are protection.

They are often the thing that allows relationships to become healthier, more honest, and more sustainable.

And if boundaries feel uncomfortable for you, you are not alone.

Many of us were taught that saying no meant disappointing people.

But honoring your emotional limits does not make you selfish.

It makes you human.

What boundary are you currently learning to practice?

You do not have to be falling apart to deserve support.

Therapy is not only for crisis.

Sometimes therapy looks like:
• wanting healthier relationships
• learning boundaries
• processing stress
• healing childhood wounds
• navigating burnout
• understanding yourself better
• wanting more peace in your life

Mental health care can be preventative, supportive, restorative, and life-giving.

You are allowed to seek support before things become unbearable.

That alone is enough reason. 🤎

Healing was never meant to happen in isolation.

We’re excited to be part of Sanando Nuestra Mente — a community-centered event focused on mental health, connection, culture, and collective healing.

At COAC, we believe mental health care should feel accessible, affirming, and rooted in community.

We hope to see you there as we continue creating spaces where people feel seen, supported, and safe enough to heal.

More details in stories. ✨

Last night, members of our team had the honor of attending opening night of the Cine Las Américas International Film Festival as the official mental health partner of this year’s festival. We watched American Pachuco, a powerful film centered around the work and legacy of Luis Valdez and the Chicano Movement.

The film explored identity, belonging, culture, grief, resistance, and the deeply layered experience of being Chicano, Latino, Tejano, Mexicano — often feeling connected to many places while still searching for home within yourself.

As mental health professionals, these are stories we witness every day in the therapy room. So many people are carrying the wounds, silence, survival, and resilience of generations before them while trying to make sense of who they are and where they belong.

There was something incredibly powerful about sitting in community with people who are committed to telling these stories through film, art, and lived experience. Representation matters. Storytelling matters. Community healing matters.

We are deeply grateful to support a festival that honors culture, history, artistry, and the voices of people who lived these experiences. 🤎
