THANK YOU to Mechelle Smith for pouring into our ladies yesterday!

With her wealth of financial expertise, Mechelle made financial planning, credit, and wants vs. needs practical, engaging, and REAL. More than teaching, she encouraged our ladies to reflect, make intentional choices, learn from the past, and plan for a brighter financial future.

Her message was delivered with love, transparency, and understanding, and our ladies left feeling EMPOWERED, EQUIPPED, and INSPIRED! 🙌🏽

Thank you, Mechelle, for reminding them that their past does not define their future and that the choices they make today can impact generations to come.

This is what reentry, growth, and transformation look like.

Travis County’s IJPA Program isn’t just preparing people to reenter society, we’re helping them prepare to THRIVE!

SMART program participants spent time practicing self-love and self-care while creating vision boards that reflect their goals, hopes, and the future they want to build. Together, we had meaningful conversations about what life after reentry can look like, the barriers that often come with the journey, and the ongoing commitment to maintaining sobriety.

One of the most important reminders from today is that the world we create around us becomes better when we invest in becoming better ourselves. Growth starts from within, and every positive step forward is worth celebrating.

We're proud of everyone who showed up, shared their stories, and committed to building a brighter future one vision, one goal, and one day at a time. đź’™

This week, the Travis County Reentry Program team completed another successful Pathways 2 Employment (P2E) class at Travis State Jail.
Over the course of the week, we worked with individuals preparing for release, whether they are 90 days or just 1 day from returning home.

Through P2E, participants gain practical tools and support designed to help them build a successful future. Topics include becoming trauma-informed, owning your story, developing interview skills, participating in mock interviews, and connecting with valuable community resources. Each graduate receives a certificate of completion and a resource packet tailored to their home county, even if they are not returning to Travis County.

Today, one participant shared something that reminded us why this work matters. He told our team, "I wish everyone could experience P2E."
Having been incarcerated three different times, he shared that this was the first time he felt truly confident about going home and not returning. He said he finally feels equipped, prepared, and supported. Knowing that our team is only a phone call, text, or email away has given him hope and confidence for the future.

Stories like these reinforce the importance of providing meaningful reentry support before release. We are honored to walk alongside participants as they take the next steps toward employment, stability, and success.

Changing Lives Beyond the Numbers

At Travis County’s IJPA Program, success is measured by more than statistics, enrollments, or completed services. Success is measured by lives transformed.

Recently, we received this message from a former participant who spent more than 17 years incarcerated in TDCJ before returning home and enrolling in our program. Through determination, support from our staff, and access to opportunities, he successfully completed CDL training and is now building a career that allows him to provide for himself and his family.

Most importantly, he is breaking the cycle of recidivism and creating a new legacy.

The message he sent reminds us why this work matters. Reentry is not just about programming—it’s about people. It’s about building genuine relationships, walking alongside individuals as they navigate their transition home, and helping them see possibilities beyond their past.

Every CDL earned, every job secured, every family reunited, and every person who chooses a new path represents something bigger than a number on a report. It represents hope, accountability, and transformation.

We are proud of this participant’s accomplishments and grateful to play a small role in his journey. His success is a reminder that when people are given support, opportunity, and someone who believes in them, lives can change.

This is why we do the work.
