TMAR Public Affairs Officer Honored

On October 26, 2019, Petty Officer Michael E. Marotta was awarded a Meritorious Service Ribbon for his work as the public affairs officer of the Texas Maritime Regiment (TMAR) of the Texas State Guard (TXSG). He was also commended for his work as a trainer in WebEOC computer operations for the TXSG Officer Candidate School and other learning sessions. At the same ceremony Marotta was promoted to Staff Sergeant/Petty Officer 1st Class (brevet) in advance of his retirement the following day ahead of his 70th birthday on November 10. He served for four years and 11 months. Brig. Gen. Robert T. Hastings Jr., Texas State Guard, has been named 2019 recipient of the America’s Future Series Megellas Award, presented annually to a distinguished military leader who has demonstrated continued service to the country. The Megellas Award is named for Lieutenant Colonel James “Maggie” Megellas, a retired U.S. Army officer who is the most-decorated officer in the history of the 82nd Airborne Division. Hastings, a military leader and business executive with an impressive multifaceted career in military, corporate leadership and public service, was honored Saturday, September 14, 2019, at two events: the Salute to Maggie Luncheon hosted by Congressman Pete Sessions, and the 2nd Annual Tribute to Valor Gala. Both events took place in Dallas and were attended by 13 Medal of Honor recipients.
The award was presented by former Deputy Secretary of Defense Gordon England and retired Navy SEAL Clint Bruce.
