Recently in Mathis, Texas, TXSG service members from the 3rd and 6th Brigades conducted joint Annual Training to strengthen emergency response capabilities in support of Texans during disasters.

Service members trained on nine-line helicopter MEDEVAC procedures, including landing zone safety and both hot and cold patient loading operations. Hot loads are conducted while the helicopter remains running, requiring rapid coordination and strict safety procedures.

The training helps prepare TXSG service members to respond quickly and effectively during real-world emergencies across Texas.

Recently in Mathis, Texas State Guard service members from the 3rd and 6th Brigades conducted joint Annual Training focused on emergency response operations to better support Texans during disasters.

The multi-day training brought service members together to strengthen readiness across a wide range of missions they may face during hurricanes, floods, severe weather and other state emergencies. The goal was simple: to improve response capability and ensure teams are prepared to serve communities when called.

Training events included physical fitness, simulated medical emergency response, nine-line helicopter MEDEVAC procedures, forklift certification, boat operations and water rescue, Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), search and rescue, Points of Distribution (PODs), and Emergency Tracking Network (ETN) operations. Each lane gave service members hands-on experience to build confidence and improve coordination across units.

Maj. Gen. Roger Sheridan, commander of the Texas State Guard, and Command Sgt. Maj. Jerry Kovar also visited during training. Their presence encouraged troop morale as they participated in several events and engaged directly with service members.

Joint training like this strengthens the Texas State Guard’s ability to respond quickly, work across brigades and support the citizens of Texas when disaster strikes.
Duty First. Texas Always.

The Texan volunteers who fought at San Jacinto formed the 2nd Regiment, which later became part of the foundation of today’s Texas State Guard. Their courage, sacrifice, and commitment to defending Texas created a legacy of service that still lives on in our ranks today.

Today is San Jacinto Day — April 21, 1836.
A small band of Texans, outnumbered and outgunned, charged into battle with the cry “Remember the Alamo! Remember Goliad!” In just 18 minutes, they defeated Santa Anna’s army and secured Texas independence.

This day belongs especially to those who serve for the love of Texas — the soldiers, lawmen, first responders, and patriots who still answer the call with courage, not for fame or fortune, but because this land and its freedom are worth fighting for.

Texas wasn’t handed to us. It was won with blood, grit, and love.
Remember San Jacinto. Honor those who still stand for her.
Happy San Jacinto Day, Texas!

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Maj. Girard, commander of 4th Battalion, 6th Brigade, recently promoted Esequiel Garcia to sergeant first class during a ceremony at Martindale Army Heliport Airfield.

Family members participated in the ceremony, joining in the presentation of rank and celebrating the milestone alongside fellow service members.

Promotions like this reflect the strength of the force and the dedication of noncommissioned officers who lead from the front and mentor the next generation of service members.
