Spectrum News 1 Texas found that thousands of healthcare workers that work with Texas’ most vulnerable populations say they were forgotten about in the state’s COVID-19 vaccine rollout.
Rachel Gunter is an independent contractor who spends the majority of her time in her car or in her patients’ homes, and many of her patients are immunocompromised. Despite her categorization as a Phase 1A frontline healthcare worker, Gunter had to wait for more than a month to receive a vaccine, and at the end of that wait, she still needed to drive three hours.
The article cites Rachel Hammon, Executive Director of the Texas Association for Home Care & Hospice, saying that Gunter is not a unique case, compelling her to write a letter to the Governor, asking that the State develop a process to correct the situation.
