Is your child curious about fire?

Do you know a teen that has intentionally or unintentionally set fires?

The Travis County Fire Marshal’s Office is relaunching the Youth Fire Intervention Program.

This program aims to:
• Reduce repeat fire-setting behavior
• Prevent escalation of unsafe actions
• Identify when additional services may be needed

The Fire Marshal’s Office is taking referrals for this voluntary program for youths 5 to 17-years-old in Travis County.

🌡️ It’s going to be HOT and HUMID! The feel-like temperature is expected to climb above 100°F Wednesday (6/17) through Sunday (6/21). The hottest day is expected Thursday (6/18).

💧 Drink plenty of water
☀️ Limit outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day
🏠 Take breaks in air-conditioned spaces or the shade
👵 Check on older adults, children, and vulnerable neighbors
🐾 Keep pets inside and hydrated
⚠️ Know the signs of heat-related illness, including dizziness, headache, nausea, heavy sweating, and confusion

🪰 BE AWARE: New World Screwworm

As a precautionary measure, Travis County Judge Andy Brown has issued a local disaster declaration to encourage vigilance and early reporting.

New World Screwworm is a parasitic fly that can affect livestock, wildlife, pets and, in rare cases, people. There’s currently no documented case here in Travis County, but we want everyone to be aware.

Early detection is key. Watch for unusual wounds that do not heal, wounds containing visible larvae (maggots), or signs of infection in livestock and pets.

Suspected cases in wildlife should be reported to Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. Suspected cases in livestock should be reported to the Texas Animal Health Commission.

🌡️ High temps + high humidity this week = HOT and dangerous! Take a few minutes to learn the signs of heat-related illness.

⚠️ Heat exhaustion:
• Heavy sweating
• Dizziness or weakness
• Headache
• Nausea
• Cool, clammy skin
✔ Move to a cool place immediately
✔ Drink water
✔ Rest and cool down

🚨 Heat stroke:
• High body temperature
• Confusion
• Hot, red skin
• Loss of consciousness
📞 Call 911 immediately

Drink lots of water, wear lightweight clothing, and avoid spending too much time out in the heat!
