Texas Education Grantmakers Advocacy Consortium

Texas Education Grantmakers Advocacy Consortium Formerly Texas Education Grantmakers Advocacy Consortium (TEGAC). In 2011 the Texas Legislature approved historic cuts to funding for public education.

Empowering Texas philanthropy to invest & engage in public and higher education policy & advocacy. Foundations across Texas saw successful public/private partnerships threatened or eliminated by budget cuts. Also, demand for scarce foundation dollars increased as community groups see their revenues eliminated from school district budgets. In response, a geographically and politically diverse conso

rtium group of foundations joined together to promote, protect and improve public education. We are designed to be a forum and serve as a focal point for organizing philanthropic efforts. In some cases we seek to pool funds from multiple foundations to increase the impact of its advocacy efforts. We partner with policymakers, the media, the business community, academics, advocates, parents and others to ensure the broadest dissemination of its work. Foundations with all levels of interest and experience in advocacy grantmaking are welcome to participate. Because every foundation is different and the needs of our members are so diverse, there is a place for every foundation in our work. After nearly a decade, our name has changed but our mission has not. We are Philanthropy Advocates.

School this fall will be different — whether in-person or online. But, one thing is sure, and I hope state leaders hear this call. Texas will not recover until our public schools recover. Let’s get it done — for our students, our citizens, and our future."

Whether you are in an urban community or rural Texas, the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on our families, businesses, communities and schools are far-reaching.
