Hispanic Heritage Month is here, and so is your power 🗳️

From September 15 to October 15, we celebrate the histories, cultures, and contributions of Hispanic and Latine communities, and the leadership that continues to shape our future. And that celebration includes something big: protecting our rights and community. Keep building power together.

Throwback to when the League won an Emmy… yes, really. 🏆

Before political debates were what they are today, the League of Women Voters was setting the standard.
In 1976, LWV hosted the first-ever televised presidential debate and earned an Emmy for it.

This is what nonpartisan, voter-first, award-winning leadership looks like.

Housing choices, safer streets, and neighborhood investment are on the agenda for the District 5 City Council Candidate Forum.

Join the League of Women Voters Austin Area for a nonpartisan conversation exploring housing affordability, transportation along South Lamar and other major corridors, and priorities for parks, drainage, and city spending. Planned topics also include balancing redevelopment with environmental protection and reducing construction disruptions for residents and local businesses. Bring a neighbor, hear the candidates’
approaches, and leave better prepared to make your choice.

Level up your voting game 🎮🗳️

Think you know how to vote? You might… but here are a few power-ups most people miss:

✔️ You can vote early (skip the Election Day rush)
✔️ You can vote anywhere in Travis County if you are registered in Travis County
✔️ You don’t have to vote on everything, partial ballots still count
✔️ Bring notes or the LWV Voters Guide, not your phone
✔️ If you’re in line by closing time, you can still vote
✔️ Your ID might still work: Ages 18–69, expired up to 4 years. Ages 70+, expired any length of time

💩🚨 **BREAKING:** Franklin's campaign is under fire over a growing **Poop-gate** controversy.

**AN ACCOUNTABILITY CRISIS?**

Residents say complaints about uncollected pet waste are piling up across Austin, with critics blaming Franklin's ""freedom-first"" message for encouraging bad behavior. Supporters argue responsible owners don't need more rules—they just need to do the right thing.

A fight over personal responsibility... or a mess City Hall can't ignore? You decide. 👀🗳️

Join us for a special Austin screening of The Life of the Party followed by a panel discussion and a community conversation.

The Life of the Party is a 40-minute documentary that follows three Republican women in Texas with sharply different views of their party as they navigate leadership, political identity, and a changing political landscape. Their stories raise questions that reach beyond a single party.

A panel discussion featuring the directors and two of the film's subjects will follow the screening. We'll wrap things up with facilitated small group discussions where audience members will discuss the film’s themes, share perspectives, and explore what it means to engage across political differences.

🗓️ Saturday, September 26
🕰️ 9:30 - 11:30 a.m.
📍 Baker School Cafetorium, 3908 Avenue B, Austin

The $15 ticket price will be used to defray the cost of the event. Buy tickets here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/the-life-of-the-party-film-screening-and-discussion-tickets-1998933450761

Universe Creative, in partnership with the League of Women Voters of the Austin Area (LWVAA) and Braver Angels Central Texas (BACT), will present a special Austin screening of The Life of the Party followed by a panel discussion and a community conversation.
