Deaf & Hard of Hearing Resource Specialists Access Vine's Resource Specialist Program provides assistance to people who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing. Please contact us in advance to arrange an appointment!

The Resource Specialists provide services to those with hearing loss. The Technology Specialists identify solutions to communication barriers using assistive technology. The Access Specialists ensure there is equal communication access and provide advocacy. The Deaf and Hard of Hearing Access Specialist have the knowledge-base and communication ability to work with persons who are deaf, hard of he

aring, and late-deafened in the areas of advocacy, self-empowerment, and sensitivity training, as well as with Federal and State mandates on equal access to services, including education and employment. In many instances, the Access Specialist work as a liaison between consumers and service providers on appropriate service provision. The Deaf and Hard of Hearing Technology Specialist provide services to a person with hearing loss, including those recently deafened. The Technology Specialist identifies solutions based on the needs of the individual and their family and strives to improve the quality of life for these persons by providing essential training and information. Training may include information on communication strategies, assistive technology, hearing loss awareness, cochlear implants, and hearing aids. Assistance in locating resources in the community and individual assessment of the workplace, educational, or community challenges are also provided. Access Vine’s Resource Specialist Project is funded by the Texas Office of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services under the Texas Health and Human Services Commission.
