Texas Politics Project

Texas Politics Project Based at The University of Texas at Austin. The Texas Politics Project includes four major initiatives. The Texas Politics online text.

Home of the state's leading public opinion poll, the Texas Politics webtext produced in partnership with Soomo Learning, and the open-access Internship bulletin board used by thousands of students a year. The Texas Politics Project exists to encourage thoughtful engagement with politics and government in the state of Texas. The online Texas Politics text is designed to support state-mandated unive

rsity instruction in the workings of Texas government and to aid all Texans in becoming more thoughtful and effective participants in their government. Texas Politics builds on Web-accessible video, audio, graphical, and textual formats to foster student and citizen interest in Texas Politics and to provide instructors and students with a comprehensive set of tools for teaching and learning, in conjunction with their partners at Soomo Learning. The University of Texas/Texas Tribune Poll. The Texas Politics Project partners with the Texas Tribune to produce and distribute the only completely public statewide survey in Texas. Results are initially published by the Texas Tribune. Complete data sets and related teaching material are then published as part of the Texas Politics online text at the Texas Politics Project website. The Texas Politics Speaker Series. The Texas Politics Speaker Series brings to the UT campus people from across the political spectrum and from all levels of government to discuss compelling political and policy issues. Speakers and topics are selected to engage students and the public, while providing insight into how the political process works in Texas. Events are free and open to the public. The UT-Austin Government Department Internship Program. James Henson, director of the Texas Politics Project, also oversees this internship program. Interns actively participate in the Speaker Series while participating in a wide variety of internship opportunities at government and political organizations in and around Austin, Tx.

In the first Second Reading of 2026, James Henson and Joshua Blank look at data from the last UT/Texas Politics Project Poll of 2025, which found increased concern about health care costs (and generally dim views of how both national and state incumbents handled the issue), as well as new data on views of Texas candidates for the U.S. Senate, and views on immigration enforcement (gathered, of course, before events in Minneapolis and Portland).Link to the pod and accompanying graphics at the Texas politics Project website.
