"We are stuck in Shame when we can't release forgiveness". ~Pastor Jason Nix.
I attended a Memorial today for my brother Thomas A Faulkenberry. During the Pastoral message, this statement resounded deeply within me because of the mixed emotions that are stirring within me. I am hurting, feel regret and feel despair for the loss of my friend. He was and is a memorable man. His smile and viking beard comes forward when I think of him. His hugs were awesome and his deep 3 hour philosophical conversations will always be in my heart.
His sister nick-named him her "wildling" twin. That made me smile in more ways than one. I think because many, if not most us Veterans, are wildlings at heart. We seek that which is not for the weak of heart. We sacrifice our bodies, minds and hearts for a worthy cause. We allow ourselves to be the shield for those who cannot defend themselves. This was Tommy....
Soon enough my tears will dry up, the tightness in chest will release and my smile will come back because I know that I had the pleasure of knowing a man who loved hard, played hard and gave his all.
