Well Beyond

Well Beyond 📲 App by Well Aware Nonprofit
đź’§ Sustainable Solutions for the Water Aid Sector It provides technical and community expertise that many NGOs lack.

Well Beyond was born of necessity and inspired by insight in response to the significant inefficiency of the water charity sector. Without interrupting client NGO operations or donor messaging, Well Beyond offers services ranging from brief consultations to entire project oversight. The new model utilizes the knowledge and experience from Well Aware’s 100 percent success rate and redirects wasted

resources to more effective projects resulting in a greater impact to those in need. Well Beyond will conduct field evaluations in Haiti this August for four NGOs in need of support. The new company also has a waiting list for partnership review of additional NGOs in Kenya, Jordan and Cameroon.

“Aurora Global helps mitigate our sector’s inefficacy and redirect some of the billions of dollars spent on water efforts that are not fully effective,” Evans said. “Our goal is to advise organizations on how to best implement cost-effective water systems that last. We will strengthen NGO projects process to carry forward into their future work.”

During Evans’ work with Well Aware, she noticed the ineffectiveness of many water systems. Studies show that between 43-69 percent of water projects evaluated in Ethiopia last year were not functioning or producing clean water. The cumulative costs of failed water systems are approximately $1.2 billion. Evans discovered a significant percentage of resources being misappropriated are coming from the United States. For example, the top three U.S. water charities raised $171.3 million in 2013 alone, but millions of those dollars are estimated to likely be wasted. Additionally, water systems that break down leave people in the community with a greater burden than they originally carried prior to the charity’s intervention. Well Aware is not geographically focused. Requests are being accepted from partners in any location. About Sarah Evans

Wrapping up World Water Week, the spotlight is on the importance of planning for the future. We can begin to act with sustainability in mind, and work to dispel the illusion that our water supply is infinite.

While there continues to be a large-scale reliable access issue, each new water solution, including the way people are connected to it, can be better than the last as we become more responsible and pay closer attention to results over time.

New innovative solutions for a Water Wise World are being developed, and our team looks forward to deploying the Well Beyond app with more partner organizations, increasing the efficiency of water management world-wide.

This week is World Water Week! The theme this year, Seeds of Change: Innovative Solutions for a Water Wise World, couldn’t be more aligned with our mission for the Well Beyond app.

The app provides a new way to manage rural water wells and rainwater catchment systems. It contains a variety of tools for community leaders and NGOs: operations checklists, community WASH trainings, water committee governance guidelines and procedures to troubleshoot maintenance issues. Combined, they work to maintain systems so that people have stable access and continue to be “water wise”!

The Well Beyond App by Well Aware is a tool for NGOs implementing water infrastructure in developing regions of the world. The app has features for water system users and NGO staff. Individuals and benefitting communities access the app to complete WASH trainings, be guided through maintenance and minor repairs, and communicate with repair teams. On the backend, nonprofits can track trends in maintenance and repair issues, evaluate the effectiveness of repair instructions, and dispatch repair teams. This data then informs future projects so more communities can have long-lasting clean water!

It's World Water Day today, and millions still lack safely managed drinking water services. Observing this day means increasing awareness of water issues worldwide.

đź’§Nearly 2.2 billion people globally lack reliable access to safely managed drinking water.

đź’§Nearly 546 million children worldwide lack a basic drinking water service at their school.

đź’§Women and girls in developing countries walk an average of 3.5 miles every day to fetch water.

We are so grateful for the work WellAware has been able to do so far, improving access in rural communities, especially in schools, to clean water. And we look forward to managing and maintaining our partner and other NGOs water systems with the Well Beyond App. Ensuring the longevity of water projects for generations.
