Today is LBJ Day in Texas. A Hill Country Democrat who started out teaching poor students in Cotulla went on to sign the Civil Rights Act, the Voting Rights Act, Medicare, and Medicaid into law - lifting millions of Americans out of poverty and enshrining the right to vote.

Sixty years later, that legacy is under attack. Texas House Democrats aren't just celebrating LBJ's work today - we're defending it.

Today, Texas House Democrats called on Governor Abbott to demand that the Trump Administration immediately shut down the Dilley Immigration Processing Center following reports of inedible food, undrinkable water, delayed medical care and horrific conditions endured by children and families.

Dilley must close.

After 30 years of Republican control, 52% of Texas counties have no obstetric clinician, 58.7% have no birthing facility and 78.4% of rural Texas lacks a birthing facility.

At yesterday's data center hearing, State Representative Ana Hernandez asked the question Texas families deserve answered: If we already know these massive transmission costs will eventually be passed on to residential customers, why aren’t we addressing that burden now?

Senfronia Thompson said it plainly: Texans should not be forced to foot the bill for massive data centers without any choice or say in the matter.
