TO THOSE WHO LABOR. Labor Day hits different when your job is to labor.
For Austin firefighters, the demands of the job often extend beyond the actual 24-hour shift—training, station duties, reports, equipment maintenance, public events, and simply carrying the physical and mental demands of the job home with you. We haul hose, climb stairs, force doors, carry people to safety, cut cars apart, fight fire, work in the heat, and answer the call when others are having the worst day of their lives.
This is a physically demanding job. It takes strength, endurance, sacrifice, and a willingness to put in the work — every shift, every call, every day.
So today, on Labor Day, we recognize the men and women who truly labor to keep this city safe.
And while Labor Day comes once a year, Austin firefighters put in the work every single day.
Respect to those who earn it the hard way.
Happy Labor Day from the Austin Firefighters Association.
