Guerrero Colorado River Metropolitan Park is a large, 400 acre park located along the south bank of the Colorado River immediately downstream of Longhorn Dam. The park was developed in a remarkably natural condition, with walking trails and wildlife habitat as primary features of the space. Native and drought tolerant plantings are featured throughout the park. The park features: Internal roadways

, sidewalks and parking improvements, multi-use trails, restrooms, 2 multi-use sports field, group picnic facility, children’s play area, large general purpose lawn area, trees, landscaping and irrigation, and a public art project. Concurrently within the park a new disc golf course was completed in 2012 and a reclaimed water distribution main provided by the Austin Water Utility will supply the park’s irrigation system. The reclaimed water use will save an estimated 10 million gallons at Colorado River Park annually. Guerrero
Roy G, Guerrero came to Austin to attend the University of Texas. Soon, he was working part-time for the Austin Parks and Recreation Department. His career was to last more than thirty-four years. During that time he worked his way up to Assistant Director of the Department. He was a leader who was creative and innovative. For his leadership, he was awarded every high honor given by the Texas Recreation and Parks Society, the National Recreation and Parks Society, and the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation. To the Austin community, he became know affectionately as "Mr. G.", the man in city government that could always be counted on for assistance and support.
