Congratulations to Senior Director Nahum Pacheco-Salazar who was appointed by Governor Abbott to the Task Force on Modernizing Manufacturing! Among its duties, the task force will study the adoption of digital and automated technologies in Texas manufacturing, assess the economic impact of modernization, and propose policies to support innovation. We partner with higher ed institutions and industries to help students succeed in the state's high-demand jobs and look forward to being part of this task force!

The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board mourns the passing of former Commissioner of Higher Education Dr. Raymund A. Paredes, who served the state of Texas from 2004 to 2019.
Dr. Paredes dedicated his life and career to public service and higher education - leading with integrity, thoughtfulness, and a deep commitment to students and institutions across Texas. His impact on higher education will continue to be felt for years to come.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, former colleagues, and all who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside him.

A new model for nursing education is tackling the challenge of our state’s nursing shortage head-on. Funded by a THECB grant, Sam Houston State University's Shared Nurse Academic Practice Partnership Initiative (SNAPPI) is helping shape the future of healthcare workforce development in Texas.

By allowing nurses to teach students within their existing clinical roles, SNAPPI removes barriers that have traditionally kept experienced professionals from becoming educators. The result? More hands-on learning opportunities, stronger connections between students and hospitals, and a growing pipeline of future nurses for communities across Texas. THECB Deputy Commissioner David Troutman spoke today at the American Enterprise Institute panel about the great strides Texas has made in highlighting the value of higher education. Texas’s wealth of education and workforce data enables a robust examination of how degrees and certificates connect to earnings and student success in the workforce (https://tinyurl.com/THECBGOV). THECB's data was utilized in a Postsecondary Commission study – which followed more than 900,000 students enrolled in Texas public higher education over different time periods and compared students’ earnings to those of similar Texans who did not enroll in higher ed.
