It is with a heavy heart that the Cabot Police Department is mourning the loss of Detective Christian Weir. He died in a single vehicle accident early Saturday morning while he was off duty. Detective Weir is survived by his beautiful wife Bailey who is expecting the birth of their first child. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time. Detective Weir has served the citizens of Cabot and the Cabot Police Department since April of 2022.

Chief Steely met with his family after the accident and will share more information about Christian's arrangements when they are available.

Fireworks Ordinance No # 05-2009

The use of fireworks is permitted within city limits on July 3rd until 10:00p.m., July 4th until 11:00p.m., and December 31st until 11:59 p.m. Said use of fireworks is not allowed if a burn ban is in effect and properly posted.

🇺🇸Always follow the specific directions for each item.
🇺🇸Be sure to have an extinguishing device readily accessible i.e. water hose, bucket of water, fire extinguisher.
🇺🇸Stay the recommended distance away from buildings and viewers and avoid areas with dry brush, grass or debris; flying sparks easily ignite them.
🇺🇸Light one item at a time and never inside an enclosed container.
🇺🇸NEVER attempt to relight a firework or a non-functioning firework.
🇺🇸NEVER allow children to handle fireworks or to pick up leftover fireworks debris off the ground.
🇺🇸Pets and fireworks DO NOT MIX.

As a community, we must be responsible for our actions, please respect your neighbor’s property. Fireworks tend to leave debris and excess trash.

Last week, the City of Austin Proclaimed October 29 as “Augustus Britton Day” in the memory of a special 6-year-old citizen and neuroblastoma warrior. Additionally, a tree has been dedicated to Gus right outside of city hall for all to enjoy. On October 29 of each year, we encourage all citizens to donate or volunteer in Gus’s name.

SAVE THE DATE! We are thrilled to announce that on April 8, 2024, our city will be in the path of totality for the total eclipse. This is a once-in-a-lifetime event that you won't want to miss!

The total eclipse is a rare celestial event that occurs when the moon passes between the sun and the Earth, casting a shadow on the Earth's surface. During the total eclipse, the sky will turn dark, the temperature will drop, and the stars will be visible in the sky. It is truly a breathtaking experience!

Austin, Arkansas is located in the central part of the state and is one of the few cities in Arkansas that will be in the path of totality. We are expecting thousands of visitors from all over the country to come to our city to witness this spectacular event.

If you're planning on visiting Austin, Arkansas for the total eclipse, we recommend that you book your lodging early, as hotels and campsites are expected to fill up quickly. We also encourage visitors to bring plenty of water and sunscreen, as April can sometimes be a warm month in Arkansas.

We can't wait to share this amazing experience with you on April 8, 2024. See you soon in Austin, Arkansas!
