NEVADA, PLEASE STAY SAFE!

As moisture from Tropical Storm Rachel moves across Nevada, I want to remind everyone to stay alert and take precautions.

We desperately need the rain, but please remember that heavy rainfall can lead to flash flooding. Never underestimate the power of moving water, and never attempt to drive through flooded roadways.

You can stay updated by checking the US National Weather Service for weather alerts and Nevada 511 for current road conditions.

Photos are now circulating of hats worn by northern Nevada Republican congressional district candidate David Flippo including two V shaped emblems, as shown in numerous official campaigning materials.

As of this morning, one could be found that we just did a screenshot of (in top left from 159 weeks ago) from the electdavidflippo Instagram account which has 435 followers.

This has come under renewed scrutiny as Flippo previously blamed staffers for mistakenly and repeatedly claiming he had been the recipient of a Bronze Star with valor as an Air Force officer. He did receive the much less prestigious standard Bronze Star award in 2004.

Many individuals wear miniature V pins or decoration replicas on hats to represent valor awards. In his case Flippo has often worn a replica of a Bronze Star on his hats with two Vs on the side. He did receive an Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with Valor award, but never the Bronze Star with Valor award, so why regularly put two Vs on his hats?

Estimates are that, since the so-called War on Terror started, about 3,500 people have received Bronze Stars with Valor, but none went to Flippo.

Today marks nine years since the Route 91 Harvest Festival shooting in Las Vegas.

We remember the 58 precious lives lost in the immediate aftermath, the two survivors who later died from their injuries, the hundreds who were wounded, and every family, survivor, first responder, and community member whose life was forever changed.

Nevada remembers. They will never be forgotten.

The Republican loaned his campaign for the 2nd Congressional District at least $1.6M. Where did he get the money?

These are even bigger in person than my pictures make them look! I’m not sure what they are, but they had to raise the power lines so the load could get through!

David Flippo, the Republican nominee in Nevada’s 2nd Congressional District, comprising Northern Nevada, including Reno, falsely claimed on multiple occasions in recent years that he received a Bronze Star “for valor,” a distinction reserved for combat heroism rather than meritorious service, The Washington Post reported today.

The Post reported that the Bronze Star Flippo received in 2004, during a 24-year Air Force career, did not carry the “V” device that denotes valor. Experts on military honors say such misrepresentations are tantamount to lying.

Responding to the Post, campaign spokesman Rory McShane wrote that the campaign “has sent literally hundreds of fundraising solicitations via text messages, email, letter, etc. A copywriter accidentally using old talking points does not a scandal make.”

However, Jason Dempsey, a retired Army infantry officer and adjunct senior fellow at the Center for a New American Security, a Washington think tank, told the Post the exaggeration was “pretty blatant” and reflected “grasping for unearned valor.”

I know exactly what needs to be done: Congress needs term limits.

When I ran for Congress, I signed the Term Limits Pledge because public office was never meant to become a lifelong career. I meant it then, and I still mean it today.

We continue electing the same incumbents decade after decade because they have the money, connections, and name recognition. But money should never have more power than the American people.

Money talks… But our votes speak louder.

We cannot keep complaining about career politicians while repeatedly sending the same people back to Washington. We must research the candidates, demand accountability, and stop voting for someone simply because their name is familiar.

This government belongs to WE THE PEOPLE. We need term limits. And we need to vote better.

25 years later, we remember.

We remember the 2,977 lives lost. We remember that 343 were firefighters, 60 were police officers, and eight were EMTs and paramedics.

We remember those who rushed up the stairs while everyone else was running down.

We remember the passengers and crew of Flight 93 who found the courage to fight back.

We remember those who answered the call to serve in Afghanistan, Iraq, and other hostile lands. We remember those who never returned home and those who came home forever changed.

We remember all the families whose lives were never the same.

And we remember that real heroes don’t have capes, superpowers, or jerseys. They are ordinary people who find extraordinary courage when others need them most.

They wounded us, but they did not break our spirit. They frightened us, but we refused to cower in fear.

We will remember forever.
