Hays County law enforcement has advised DSISD that e-motorcycles are against the law for drivers under the age of 15, and are prohibited on our school campus. E-motorcycles require a driver’s license, registration, and insurance to operate, and are treated the same as a motor vehicle under the law.

Beginning tomorrow, April 30, if a student arrives at school on an e-motorcycle, parents or guardians will be contacted and asked to come to the school to retrieve the vehicle. Students will not be permitted to ride the e-motorcycle home.

We appreciate your cooperation in maintaining the safety of our campus and ensuring compliance with Texas law.

🚨REMINDER

Join us tonight for the community meeting on e-bikes and e-motorcycles.

In partnership with the Hays County Sheriff’s Office and the Hays County Constables’ Office, DSISD will host a community meeting and presentation on e-bikes and e-motorcycles on Monday, April 27, at 6:00 p.m. in the SSMS cafeteria.

The session will cover the key differences between e-bikes and e-motorcycles and the laws and regulations that apply to their use. With the popularity of e-bikes and e-motorcycles, we have had unlicensed students ride e-motorcycles to campus. In general, e-motorcycles do not have pedals, require a driver’s license, registration, and insurance to operate, and are treated the same as a motor vehicle under the law.

Beginning Thursday, April 30, students who arrive at school on an e-motorcycle will have their parents contacted and be prohibited from leaving campus on the device. DSISD has also been notified that the Hays County Sheriff’s Office intends to begin enforcing e-bike/e-motorcycle laws on local roadways.
