The Bible gives us a powerful picture of faith: sometimes we spend so much time praying about the mountain that we forget to speak to the mountain about our God.
There is nothing wrong with praying about your mountain. We should bring our fears, problems, needs, and impossible situations to God. Prayer is where we surrender the situation and remind ourselves that God is greater than what we’re facing.
But there comes a point when faith changes the conversation.
Jesus said in Mark 11:23, “Whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart… it will be done.”
Notice the language: “Whoever says to this mountain.”
The mountain isn’t always removed because we keep talking to God about how big it is. Sometimes we need to start talking to the mountain about how big our God is.
We talk about the mountain when we say:
* “God, this situation is impossible.”
* “God, I don’t know how we’re going to get through this.”
* “God, this problem is bigger than me.”
* “God, I’m afraid.”
* “God, I don’t see a way out.”
And yes, there are moments when those are honest prayers.
But faith begins to rise when we can say:
“Mountain, you may be big, but my God is bigger.”
“Mountain, you may be intimidating, but my God is greater.”
“Mountain, you may be standing in my way, but you are not standing in God’s way.”
“Mountain, you may look impossible, but nothing is impossible with God.”
The mountain doesn’t need to know how strong you are. It needs to know who your God is.
Your mountain needs to hear your testimony.
Tell your mountain:
“I’ve seen God provide before.”
“I’ve seen God make a way before.”
“I’ve seen God heal broken things before.”
“I’ve seen God open doors I couldn’t open.”
“I’ve seen God turn situations around that I thought were hopeless.”
“If God did it before, I know He is still God today.”
Your faith isn’t based on the absence of mountains. Your faith is based on the presence of God.
And sometimes the mountain isn’t there to destroy you. Sometimes God uses the mountain to show you that He is bigger than anything standing in front of you.
So pray about your mountain—but don’t stop there.
Speak to your mountain.
Tell it about your God.
Tell it about His faithfulness.
Tell it about His power.
Tell it about His promises.
Tell it that it doesn’t get the final word.
Because the size of your mountain doesn’t determine the outcome. The greatness of your God does.
Stop rehearsing how big the mountain is and start declaring how big your God is.
