The University of Texas at Austin School of Social Work Offering undergraduate (BSW) and graduate programs (MSSW and PhD), along with comprehensive research in the field, we are "Educating for Change" at UT Austin.

The Steve Hicks School of Social Work page is open to anyone interested in the school. We encourage posts and responses from members, but ask that you please keep communications civil and respectful. We also have certain guidelines for posts to our page:

1) Keep posts relevant. They should pertain to the school or the field of social work in some way, or promote student and/or alumni new

s and updates. Posts that lack relevance or appear to heavily self-promote will be deleted at the discretion of the Communications team. This is an information space, not a storefront.

2) Post for yourself. While it is possible that the school may share your post, please do not expect it. The decision to share a post is made on the basis of relevance and interest to our community. We cannot promote posts for you unless they are school-related news and events, as this would violate University policies on endorsements. Alumni and students may also consider posting events and job opportunities to our LinkedIn page.

3) Keep it clean. Any posts or comments that use inappropriate language will be deleted. Posts that are degrading to a specific person or population will also be deleted, and reported to Facebook. Twitter & Instagram:

AI is already showing up in social work — drafting reports, supporting documentation, even touching client care. So we asked social workers across the country: what do you need to use it well?

Their answer: clearer ethics guidelines, stronger protections for clients, and more training. Two-thirds of the 1,179 social workers surveyed said so.

The full findings from our national survey, led by Dr. Elisa Borah and the Moritz Center for Societal Impact, are out now — and they were discussed this week at the NASW National Conference in D.C.

First orientation of the summer is here! 🤘

Today we welcomed 59 of our post-BSW students who are starting their MSSW degrees. They are part of one of the most competitive classes in the history of the program and will do great things in clinical social work, as well as administration and policy practice.

UT Social Work mourns the loss of Melanie Sage, Ph.D., LCSW, a member of our adjunct faculty and a consultant in artificial intelligence to our School, who unexpectedly passed away on Friday, May 15.

Melanie was a national leader in technology use for social workers, and authored numerous texts on digital tools and skills for the profession, such as “Teaching Social Work With Digital Technology” and “101 Things to Do with a Social Work Degree: Career Pathways Across Micro, Mezzo, and Macro Practice.”

This past spring, she taught "Digital Health and Health Technologies" at UT Social Work, a new course exploring the ethical use of digital health spaces.

Melanie’s research, mentorship, and leadership impacted social work on a national scale. We mourn the loss of a pioneering social worker.
