Today, we sadly say goodbye to our District 3 intern, Vianca.

For two semesters, she worked alongside our office researching policy, staying on top of council and committee meetings, and helping support the team at events and site visits. She will be missed in our office, but we wish her the best on her next journey at St. Edward’s!

Thank you for your service to our city, Vianca!

When Semih, owner of Kalimera, reached out to our office about crime and challenges impacting the area, I called him directly and asked if I could stop by to talk in person.

What started as an email, turned into a great lunch and meaningful discussion about public safety, small businesses, and community…and I walked away with a full tummy and a new friend.

I’m proud to champion our small businesses and proud to lead with accessibility, responsiveness, and relationships. That’s what active representation looks like. 🤝

This month and always, we celebrate and uplift our LGBTQIA+ community while recognizing the historical and enduring fight for equality.

Pride is power, and I got your back. So, live unapologetically, live boldly, and live proudly!

Happy Pride Month, Austin! 🏳️‍🌈

Today, Council passed two of my resolutions that recognize the history of two special East Austin parks.

🪧 For decades, Chicano Park has been a gathering space for Chicano civil rights activists, car clubs, vendor markets, and celebrations. One interpretive sign will be built at the park, with the input and direction of the community, to acknowledge its history and cultural significance.

🌳 The Colorado River Park Wildlife Sanctuary will be renamed to Daniel Llanes Wildlife Sanctuary. As a longtime environmentalist and community advocate, Mr. Llanes fought to protect the river and park beginning in the 1980’s until his passing last year. This renaming honors his legacy and keeps his memory alive for generations to come.

Thank you to the East Austin community members and organizations who have partnered with our office to accomplish this.

At tomorrow's Austin City Council meeting, I'm proud to be supporting the following resolutions, including bringing forward two, community-led resolutions for our East Austin parks. 🌳

🏡 Item 45: Requires landlords to provide prospective tenants with a list of mandatory fees, like valet trash and tech packages, as well as the monthly cost of base rent at the time of application, before anything is signed or any application fees are paid.

🚣 Item 54: Approves an ordinance renaming Colorado River Park Wildlife Sanctuary to Daniel Llanes Wildlife Sanctuary.

🪧 Item 56: Works to collect community feedback regarding the design and content of one interpretive sign that recognizes the significance of Chicano Park, and authorizes up to $8,000 from the District 3 office operating budget to fund it.

🚲 Item 59: Directs the City Manager to update City Code and administrative rules, create a public awareness campaign, align police training and general orders, and explore establishing a public recreation area designated for e-moto enjoyment.

It’s grad season! 🎓

As most of you know, I am a proud product of Austin ISD and I’ve had the immense privilege of having three other Austin High grads serve their city in the District 3 office.

Please enjoy the high school throwback of me from ‘98 when I had hair 👀

Congratulations to all the new grads and best wishes on your next journey! 🎉
