STOLEN PUP RECOVERED — TWO SUSPECTS IN CUSTODY!

On the night of August 13, 2026, Austell Police officers responded to the BP on Austell Powder Springs Road after a customer reported that his beloved Cockapoo, Moxie, had been stolen from his vehicle while he went inside the store to pay for gas.

Officers immediately reviewed surveillance footage and identified a silver Honda Odyssey involved in the theft. The video showed a female passenger exit the vehicle, take Moxie, and leave the area.

Using our FLOCK camera system and additional investigative resources, officers identified the vehicle as a rental and developed information that led them to a nearby residence associated with the vehicle’s movements.

Members of Team 4 responded to the residence, established a perimeter, and conducted callouts. After a short time, both individuals believed to be involved in the theft were taken into custody without incident.

And most importantly…

Moxie was found safe and returned to his rightful owner!

This case is a great example of how technology, teamwork, and determined police work can come together to quickly solve a crime and bring a four-legged family member home.

Apparently, someone needed the reminder: in Austell, no crime goes uninvestigated—even when the victim has four paws and a wagging tail. 🐾

Outstanding work by Team 4 for following the evidence, locating those involved, and making sure Moxie made it home where he belongs.

TEAMWORK LEADS TO ARREST FOLLOWING BUSINESS BREAK-IN

On August 11, 2026, Austell Police Department Team 1 officers responded to SM Beauty Salon, located at 5900 Maxham Road, regarding a suspicious person outside the business who appeared to have an injured hand.

When officers arrived, the individual had left the area, and officers discovered that the front window of the business had been broken. Surveillance video showed a male breaking the window, entering the business, and then fleeing toward the Salt Springs Place area.

While officers were searching the surrounding area, a male matching the description from the surveillance footage was located near Salt Springs Place. When officers attempted to make contact, the male fled on foot through a backyard and into a wooded area.

A coordinated search and perimeter were quickly established, with assistance from a Cobb County Police K-9 unit and drone.

After an extensive search, officers successfully located the male as he exited the wooded area, where members of the perimeter team safely took him into custody.

The male was identified as Joshua Gonzalez. The investigation determined that no property was taken from the business. Gonzalez was experiencing a medical issue following the incident and was transported to Wellstar Cobb Medical Center for treatment.

Gonzalez was charged with Criminal Damage to Property and Obstruction.
This incident highlights the importance of teamwork, communication, and coordinated response.

We appreciate the assistance provided by the Cobb County Police Department during the search and the cooperation of the business owner in providing surveillance footage that assisted with the investigation.

All individuals charged with a crime are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
