🌟 Become a Caregiver – Find Purpose in Your Work 🌟
In one way or another, we’re all caregivers—whether it’s for our children, parents, friends, or even pets. Caring comes naturally, and the joy it brings is its own reward.

What if your job could feel the same way?

“At Starbucks, you can spend your time making coffee,” says Andy Eby, owner of Bickford Senior Living. “Or for similar pay, you can work with seniors, have extreme purpose, and know your work truly matters.”

You don’t need a fancy degree or years of experience—we’ll help with that. What you do need is the heart of a caregiver.

Bickford is looking for team members who are ready to make a difference in the lives of our residents. If you’re considering your next career chapter, click below to learn more:

Staying Active and Connected

After living on his own in Kansas, Al’s family grew concerned about his safety and wellbeing. With limited family support to help him relocate, Bickford stepped in to bring Al home. Over time, Al’s mobility declined, and he struggled to remain active and engaged in daily life.

Bickford’s HigherPath approach brought the team together to help Al regain strength, confidence, and connection.
✅CarePredict data revealed a decrease in activity, prompting early attention and intervention
✅ Curana Health evaluated Al and coordinated Physical Therapy with Fox Rehab
✅ Fox Therapy focused on building Al’s endurance, improving balance, and helping him safely board HOWIE for community outings
✅The Happiness Coordinator and care team encouraged exercise classes, walking club, and longer walking routes to meals

Today, Al is an active and well-known member of the community. He attends activities throughout the week, enjoys meals with friends, and proudly goes by “Santa Al” for his white beard and annual contributions to Toys for Tots. After therapy, Al was even able to join a community outing to play pool—reconnecting with a pastime he loved from earlier in life.

Al’s journey reflects how technology, teamwork, and compassionate care come together through the HigherPath Health Model to support independence, purpose, and joy.

We had such a special time celebrating Philippine Independence Day on June 12!

Our cooking club came together to make Pancit—a beloved Filipino dish—while residents, families, and BFMs enjoyed learning more about the Philippines through videos.

By the time the pancit was ready, the excitement was real… and it did not disappoint! Many were trying it for the very first time—and going back for seconds. 🍜❤️

Moments like these remind us how food brings people together and opens the door to new cultures and connections. 🌏✨

At Bickford Senior Living assisted living and Montessori memory care, meaningful engagement is woven into everyday life. Through the Montessori approach, we recognize that residents continue to have valuable skills, experiences and contributions to offer. Mary Jane spent time today helping to prepare potatoes for the kitchen by carefully peeling them for dinner. This represents something large; purpose, independence and connection.

Yesterday we enjoyed a fun-filled Western Day with many exciting activities! Residents and BFMs had a great time testing their skills with can shooting, creating western wind chimes, decorating cowboy hats, and posing for photo booth "Wanted" posters. We wrapped up the day by gathering together to watch a classic movie starring the legendary John Wayne. It was a wonderful day full of creativity, laughter, and Western spirit!

Bouncing Back with Confidence

After a fall during his normal daily routine, Paul was injured while transferring himself to his wheelchair—something he had done successfully many times before. The unexpected fall disrupted his independence and required immediate medical attention.

Bickford’s HigherPath approach brought the team together to ensure Paul’s safety, recovery, and return to the life he knew.
✅Paul used his call pendant to summon help, and the team responded within minutes
✅ A fall huddle was conducted immediately, and August Health technology quickly shared critical information with EMTs, the ER, and his physician
✅Paul transitioned to short-term rehab, where therapy helped him rebuild strength and function
✅The Bickford team coordinated closely with rehab and arranged follow-up home health PT upon his return

Today, Paul is back at Bickford of Macomb, stronger and completing his daily activities just as he did before his fall—with no change in his level of care. He feels safe, secure, and reassured knowing he could recover without the fear of having to move elsewhere.

Paul often shared that returning to Bickford was always his goal. His journey is a powerful example of how the HigherPath Health Model helps residents recover, bounce back, and continue living happier and healthier longer.

It’s incredible how meaningful “purpose” can be.

A few weeks ago, we introduced some new resident roles in Mary B’s—and Rod showed interest in helping care for our courtyard plants. Together, we pruned, pulled weeds, and watered… but what happened next was the most special part.
The very next morning, Rod woke up early and said, “I need to get to work—I have a job. Help me get the water before she comes in.”

For the first time, we’re seeing him consistently engaged and motivated by something that brings him joy. He’s found pride in beautifying the courtyard—and it shows.

Moments like this remind us how important it is to create opportunities and try new things. Sometimes, all it takes is a small role to spark a big sense of purpose. 🌱💚

Higher Path Success Story: Bickford of Aurora Reduces Falls by Nearly 24%
At Bickford of Aurora, our commitment to resident safety and quality of life continues to drive meaningful outcomes—and the results speak for themselves.
Through a focused Higher Path approach, the Aurora team achieved a 23.7% reduction in falls quarter over quarter. This significant improvement reflects not only disciplined ex*****on but also a deep dedication to proactive care.
What Drove the Improvement
The success at Aurora wasn’t accidental—it was intentional. The team leaned into key Higher Path principles:
• Early Identification & Intervention: Staff increased vigilance around residents at higher risk, identifying subtle changes sooner.
• Consistent Use of Tools & Processes: Standardized fall prevention strategies were applied reliably across shifts.
• Team Accountability: Clear ownership and daily engagement ensured nothing slipped through the cracks.
• Continuous Communication: Care teams stayed aligned, sharing insights in real time to prevent repeat incidents.
Why It Matters
A nearly 24% decrease in falls represents more than a statistic—it means:
• Fewer injuries
• Greater resident independence
• Increased peace of mind for families
• A stronger, more confident care team
Sustaining the Momentum
Bickford of Aurora is continuing to build on this success, reinforcing the habits and systems that made this improvement possible. Their work exemplifies how Higher Path principles translate into measurable, meaningful impact.
