Hard to believe 4 years have gone by so fast. April marks the end of a 4 year term on the D131 board. I'm on the ballot for this April seeking to return for another term. There are 2 candidates for 3 seats so I will not need to run a campaign. Looking forward to continue to make progress for the students.

On Monday, May 1, I was sworn in at the East Aurora School Board meeting. I am pleased to share that I was placed on the Curriculum Committee. This is a great opportunity for me to work on my agenda. I am looking forward on making a difference in the area of student achievement. My first Curriculum Committee meeting is June 5. Stay tuned.

I ran for the school board in 2003 after I learned some alarming facts about the District. At the time District was labelled as a drop out factory. At the end of my term on the board, the graduation rate increased to 75.9%. Now it is 64%. A few years a go it was 60%. I want to bring focus and stability back to the District to work on the graduation rate and other goals that benefit students. Our students need a High School Education to be successful. This is my priority and I am ready to get to work.

Q: What happens when you run a positive campaign and have earned the support of voters?

A: Your opponent(s) go negative. In the past few days, a negative mailer full of lies has hit voter mail boxes. This is a sign of desperation, I hope the voters do not fall for this cheap tactic.

I pledged to run a positive campaign because the Board of Education needs to set a positive tone for the District. There is a lot at stake in this election. Please get out and vote.

Tomorrow is the East Aurora School Board Forum. When I decided to run for the board, I pledged to run a positive campaign. Tomorrow I will discuss my ideas for improving the school district. The board sets the tone and I will lead by example. We need more professionalism and we need to show our students by example what that looks like. I can't say that is what our young people see from the national or state level (Not everyone but way too many). When I was younger I was in awe of our statesman. One of my favorite pictures that I cherish is a picture with Senator Paul Simon. They don't make them like him any more. We need to change that. So tomorrow I will try my best to conduct myself as a statesman and set the tone for what this district needs. Stay tuned.

The Illinois State Charter School Commission is having a public hearing for the Greater Good Charter School. The public hearing will be held on Thursday, March 23 at 6:00 p.m. at East High School. If you want to speak, you will need to arrive at 5:30.

TBT. This is from 1989. This is a picture of the crew that painted a house for a senior citizen on the east side. I can't remember all of the names but some of the people are former Alderman Betty, former Alderman Tess Wackerlin, Mary Fuerst, Pat Weiler, John Snyder, Jesse Vazquez, Rusty Erickson, Zeke Delgado, Pate Villalon, Dan Dolan, Rosario DeLeon, Ramiro Ramos and some members of the Aurora Boxing Club.
