What’s Happening in Aurora This Weekend

There’s a lot going on across Aurora this weekend; great food, art, music, local businesses, and family-friendly fun!

Friday, June 5:

- Marmion Academy is hosting its 35th Annual Steak Fry/Lobster Boil from 6:00–11:30 PM. This 21+ event includes a steak or lobster dinner, drinks from the Marmion Bar, live music, games, the Marmion Bag Battle co****le tournament, and the Big Ticket Raffle drawing. Proceeds support the Marmion Alumni Association Scholarship Fund and Marmion Academy Financial Aid Program.

-Aurora Downtown District is hosting First Fridays! Don’t forget to swing by Society 57, Nide Jardín, Dapper Brews, McCarty Mills, The Perch, Foreign Exchange, and all the rest of what downtown Aurora has to offer.

- ArtBar is hosting “RUSH: ArtBar Pride Show” at Two Brothers Roundhouse from 7:00–11:00 PM. Go checkout the wonderful art produced by our own homegrown artists!

Saturday, June 6:

- The Aurora Farmers Market is back for Opening Day! Stop by from 8:00 AM–12:00 PM at 65 S. Water St. and support local vendors.

Sunday, June 7:

- Fab5 DJ Team, in collaboration with Good Night Aurora, is hosting the 5th Annual Picnic in the Park from 10:00 AM-7:00 PM at Lebanon Park (1010 Lebanon St.) featuring live DJs, food, and fun for the entire family. This is a free community event!

WHAT’S HAPPENING THIS WEEKEND IN AURORA

- Center for Achieving Independence Open House
Friday, May 29 at 4:30 p.m. (323 Weston Ave. Suite 220). Come learn more about the Center for Achieving Independence and their meaningful day program supporting neurodiverse adults through independence, confidence building, and community connection.

- Coffee with the Alderman: Join us Saturday, May 30 at 10 a.m. at Society 57 (100 S. River St.) for coffee and conversation with special guests Michaela Haberkern, Executive Director of the Aurora Public Library, and Joseph Sanchez, Library Trustee. They’ll be sharing updates on the exciting West Branch Library expansion and redesign project, fully covered by reserves without raising taxes.

As always, Coffee with the Alderman is also a welcoming space to ask questions, share concerns, or have conversations about anything city-related.

- River Light FC Match Day
Saturday, May 30 at 2 p.m., at Marmion Academy (1000 Butterfield Rd). Come support Aurora’s own River Light FC as they take on Minnesota Aurora FC right here in town!

Here’s what’s happening around Aurora this weekend!

- The annual Aurora Greek Fest is back this weekend at Saint Athanasios Greek Orthodox Church from Friday, May 15 through Sunday, May 17 beginning at noon each day. Always one of the best weekends for great food, music, and community.
- Tonight (May 15) from 5pm–9pm, head over to Benton Street for the Aurora Food Truck Festival featuring 30+ food vendors, live music, and fun for the whole family.
- The Venue has a great music lineup this weekend:
Friday, May 15: Hammer & The String, a talented father-son duo, will be performing during the Food Truck Festival at 7pm.
Saturday, May 16: Sons of Chicago takes the stage at 8pm playing the music of Bruce Springsteen and Bob Seger.
- Saturday, May 16 from 4pm–9pm, Mercado in Aurora is hosting their Cinco de Mayo Night Market at Wilder Park featuring music, food, local vendors, and a family-friendly celebration.
- The 4th Ward’s very own McCarty Mills Taproom is celebrating their 6th anniversary all weekend long. From tastings to a vinyl listening party, it’s shaping up to be a great time! Congratulations!

On May 16 from 9am-3pm, the Aurora Illinois Fire Department will be hosting a one-day firefighter training experience where high school students can get a real look at what the job is like. Participants will rotate through hands-on stations including CPR/EMS, vehicle extrication, hose operations, search techniques, rescue scenarios, and more.

This is a great chance for students to build confidence, learn practical skills, and explore a career path that serves the community in a meaningful way.

- Free to attend
- Lunch provided
- All equipment supplied

Space is limited to 70 students, so families interested in participating should register early.

Thank you to our Street Maintenance Division crews for working quickly to clear downed trees and keep residents safe after today’s storm.

If you see debris or a tree down, please report it through the myAurora 311 app or at www.myaurora311.com so crews can respond as efficiently as possible.

STORM DAMAGE UPDATE - 6:23 P.M.

This afternoon, the City of Aurora experienced a significant thunderstorm that included wind gusts in excess of 65 miles-per-hour.

Wards 4, 5, and 6 on the City's West Side have primarily been affected, with trees down and some roadways being blocked.

The City's Street Maintenance Division has crews working through the evening hours to help clear roads and keep residents safe.

If you see a tree down, report it using the myAurora 311 mobile app, available on App Store and Google Play, or visit the web portal at www.myaurora311.com.

As the potential for severe weather continues this evening, please be sure to have multiple ways to receive weather warnings, and attempt to take shelter should a severe thunderstorm enter the area again.

- Ward 4 Shred & Junk Event, 8–11 AM
Stop by the Atrevete Cafe parking lot to safely dispose of sensitive documents and unwanted items. Afterward, head inside for some great coffee and fresh baked goods!

- Día del Niño Celebration, 12–4 PM
Hosted by the Aurora Hispanic Heritage Advisory Board at West Aurora High School. A fun-filled afternoon celebrating children and family with activities for all ages.

- “25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee”, 7 PM
Catch a great performance by East Aurora High School’s Tomcat Theatre. Expect an entertaining night of live theater you won’t want to miss!
