A guardian or power of attorney does not take away a person's right to vote — the voter always decides how to vote! A guardian or support staff can help with tasks like reading instructions, but cannot fill out a ballot or tell them how to vote.

Direct Support Providers and family members can also:
- Share voting information and help with registration
- Provide transportation to the polls
- Return a mail ballot on someone's behalf
- Act as a witness for a signature

DP is proud to partner with Aurora Police Department on Blue Envelope! Watch our own Associate Director of Community Affairs, Rachel Walker, in this video about the initiative.

Blue Envelope is a community safety program for people with disabilities, sensory sensitivities, communication challenges, anxiety, or other neurodivergent conditions. It gives people tools to help reduce misunderstandings and make encounters with law enforcement and first responders safer for everyone. DP supported by reviewing the content and process.

Colorado offers several ways to cast your ballot:

- By mail or at a 24-hour secure drop box.
- In person at a Voter Service and Polling Center.
