Thank you to the Aurora Veterans Advisory Council (AVAC) and the City of Aurora for hosting the inaugural POW/MIA Recognition Day at Veterans Memorial Island on Illinois Ave yesterday evening. It was an excellent turn out to remember our comrades that are listed as POW/MIA including over 65 from Illinois and at least one from Aurora. Thank you to the West High School Air Force JROTC, Aurora Fire Department, City of Aurora, American Legion Post 84 Rifle Squad, dove release, many guest speakers, and 350 luminaries to guide our comrades home. AVAC is making a donation to help continue the work to find and return those still missing. Special thanks to the AVAC subcommittee members that worked tirelessly to plan and execute this recognition day: Patricia DeVore, Scott Maxson, Joshua Pfeuffer, Guillermo "Memo" Trujillo, Curtis Wilson.

National POW*MIA Recognition Day is Friday September 15th. A ceremony will be held 6pm to 7pm at the Veterans Island Memorial Island located at 101 W. Illinois Ave, Aurora IL. Many local Veterans groups and organizations will be present and participating. Please come out and join us - highlights include US Army Color Guard, military vehicles, patriotic music, guest speakers, and a Dove release. 350 luminaries will be set to light the path home for our POW*MIA heroes. The event and and parking is free.

Transfer to Post Everlasting
It is with heavy heart that we advise that Post 1944 member, Vietnam Veteran and brother of Patricia DeVore passed away yesterday.

Post 1944 expresses its deepest sympathies to James' family. Please keep Patricia and her family in your thoughts and prayers.

All Post 1944 members in good standing:

At our meeting held on July 6th we voted to consolidate with another Post. That Post has a meeting scheduled on July 14th to consider and vote on consolidation.

Our next meeting has been scheduled for July 20th at 5:30pm where we will review, finalize and vote to approve our July 20th meeting minutes.

This will likely be the last meeting for a while for Post 1944 and we encourage members in good standing to attend. The July 20th meeting will be held at 308 E. Galena Blvd, Aurora.
