"Space: the final frontier..." 🌌🖖

On September 8, 1966, Star Trek made its television debut with the episode "The Man Trap." Created by Gene Roddenberry, the series introduced audiences to Captain James T. Kirk, Mr. Spock, and the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise—embarking on a five-year mission that would change pop culture forever.

What started as a low-rated 1960s sci-fi show grew into a multi-generational franchise spanning spin-off series, feature films, and a vision of an optimistic, unified future.

Celebrating Jon Scieszka: Transforming how we engage reluctant readers! 📚

Appointed as the inaugural National Ambassador for Young People's Literature by the Library of Congress in 2008, Jon Scieszka has dedicated his career to expanding literacy access. Through his Guys Read initiative and his irreverent, humorous storytelling style, he broke traditional norms to make reading accessible and exciting for children who often felt left behind by standard curricula.

Thank you, Jon, for inspiring millions of young minds to open a book and find the joy in reading!

Today we celebrate the birthday of Jack Prelutsky—one of the most influential figures in modern children’s literature!
🎈Author of over 50 poetry collections and named the first Children’s Poet Laureate by the Poetry Foundation in 2006, Prelutsky has played a key role in developing early literacy through humor, rhythm, and wordplay.
Incorporating humorous poetry into early reading curricula helps build phonetic awareness, vocabulary, and a lifelong joy of reading.
Thank you, Jack Prelutsky, for helping generations of children discover the fun in words!

Happy International Literacy Day! 📚✨

Literacy is more than just reading words on a page—it's the key to opportunity, critical thinking, and connection. Libraries lie at the heart of this movement, offering free access to books, digital learning tools, adult reading programs, and early literacy storytimes for all.

Today, we celebrate the librarians, educators, and readers who make lifelong learning possible. Visit your local library this week, sign up for a library card, or pick up a new book to celebrate!

Ever wonder how Uncle Sam became the ultimate symbol of the United States? 🇺🇸

It started during the War of 1812 with Samuel Wilson, a meatpacker from Troy, NY, whose stamped army provisions ("U.S.") sparked the nickname "Uncle Sam." Over the next century, political cartoonists brought him to life—culminating in James Montgomery Flagg’s iconic 1917 recruitment poster.

Today, Uncle Sam stands as a enduring representation of American civic duty and national identity.
