Our thoughts and prayers go out to Castle Rock Fire And Rescue Department and to Angie and the kids.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Firefighter EMT Andrew Koldeway following a medical condition related to a brief illness.

Koldeway joined CRFD in February 2023 and has been a firefighter for 21 years.

“Our hearts go out to his family, friends and colleagues as they navigate this unimaginable loss,” said Fire Chief Norris Croom.

Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date. CRFD will provide information on how the community can provide donations or support for Koldeway’s family in the coming days.

The family has requested privacy as we navigate this difficult time.

On Wednesday September 4th @ 0851. Buckley dispatch center received a 911 call for person down and possibly not breathing. Chief 2 and Engine 1 were dispatched to the call. Enroute to the call with not much more information given, Chief 2 went ahead and asked for an additional engine to respond for manpower. Upon arrival the crews were guided down to the patient. The crews found on site security in the process of CPR. The on site security had already given two shocks with their AED and a third was advised. With fire crews on scene the patient was transferred to the fire departments Lifepak to continue life saving procedures. The Lifepak read the patient was in v-tach and a shock was advised. The shock was given and within seconds the patient had a very weak heart beat. A few more seconds later the patient was actually breathing on his own. The patient was stabilized and packaged up for transport by Falck Rocky Mountain - Aurora, Colorado to Aurora South hospital. Upon arrival to the hospital the patient was awake and talking to the crews. The patient was admitted to the hospital for further evaluation. An incident like this goes to show that bystanders trained in CPR and the fire department continued training pays off. The fire department crews were: Chief 2 - Assistant Chief Dan Gordon. Engine 1 - Lieutenant Dominic Casa, Fire fighter Francisco Villalobos, Fire Fighter Timo Togafau and Fire medic Chris Nelson. Engine - 2: lieutenant Ryan Vincent, Fire Fighter Jeremy Collette, Fire Fighter John Hayden and Firemedic Antonio Valdes.
