🔥 ❤️🖤💚 WHAT A POWERFUL, HISTORIC NIGHT IN AURORA!

Pastor Jamal Bryant of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church traveled nearly 750 miles from Atlanta to Aurora Friday night to kick off Social Justice Weekend at Cathedral of Grace - St. John AME Church. He was only in town for a few hours, but his impact will be felt far beyond his time in the City of Lights.

🙌🏾 From a powerhouse praise team, to a compelling youth dance duo, to words from some of Aurora’s finest preachers, the lead-up to The Good Doctor’s sermon was just as powerful as the Word itself!

🚀 With a profound message titled “GET READY FOR TAKEOFF,” Pastor Bryant spoke truth to power and life into the people in his customary fired-up style, drawing dozens of standing ovations during his time on the microphone.

✊🏾 He certainly left the people of Aurora - and guests from as far away as Chicago, Gary IN and Milwaukee, WI - fired up and ready to go for Social Justice Weekend and beyond! ♦️ A special shout-out to Pastor Bryant’s fraternity brothers of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., who came in DEEP to support their brother! 🙏🏾 Special thanks to Host Pastor The Rev. Jesse Hawkins and St. John’s Social Justice Minister, the Rev. Dr. Juan Thomas, who shares another special connection with Pastor Bryant: both are Morehouse Men — Thomas, Class of ’92, and Bryant, Class of ’93.

🇺🇸 WE REMEMBER: Today marks the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, a day forever etched into the history and heart of our nation.

🕊️OUR PRAYERS REMAIN WITH THE FAMILIES AND LOVED ONES OF THE 2,977 PEOPLE WHO WERE KILLED in the terrorist attacks that day. We remember every life, every family and every community forever changed.

🚒🚔 We salute the first responders who ran TOWARD danger: the firefighters, police officers, paramedics and countless others who risked and, in many cases, gave their lives trying to save people they had never met.

🥺UNSUNG BUT NOT FORGOTTEN: We also take this time to recognize the many stories untold over the years, including the Black lives and heroes who are part of the history of that day.

🕊️Federal statistics identified 234 Black victims among those killed in the attacks, including Twelve Black FDNY firefighters were among the 343 firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice: Andre Fletcher, Gerard Baptiste, Karl Joseph, Keith Glascoe, Keithroy Maynard, Leon Smith Jr., Ronnie Henderson, Shawn Powell, Tarel Coleman, Vernon Cherry, Vernon Richard and William Henry. Black police officers, emergency responders, military personnel, airline crew members and everyday citizens were also among those who served, survived and were lost.

🌹REMEMBER HER NAME: You've probably seen the unforgettable photograph of a woman completely covered in gray dust after escaping the World Trade Center. HER NAME WAS MARCY BORDERS. The 28-year-old Black woman worked on the 81st floor of the North Tower and escaped before being engulfed by the massive cloud of dust and debris. She later passed from complications in 2015. The photograph of her became one of the defining images of 9/11, and the world came to know her as “The Dust Lady.” But she was more than an iconic photograph. She was Marcy Borders, a mother, a survivor and part of the Black story of September 11.

🙏🏾MAY WE KEEP EVERYONE’S LEGACIES AND FAMILIES IN OUR PRAYERS.
