The county commissioners have lifted the burn ban. Please be careful when you decide to try to burn and be mindful of the wind and weather conditions. Also, please contact Barry County 911’s non-emergency number at 417-847-4911 to report that you will be conducting a controlled burn. They will ask you a few questions and this will help prevent us from having to show up if neighbors or passerby’s call it in.

Traffic impacts according to MoDOT Southwest Missouri

All lanes of Route 248 will be CLOSED beginning the week of March 2 for the duration of the project.

Drivers will have access to entrances at either end of the bridge, but will not be able to drive through the work zone.

Drivers will be directed along a signed detour using Route 248, Missouri Route 76 and Missouri Route 39.

Flat Creek NOT navigable under Route 248 for duration of the project.

📢 Regarding the Closing of the Bridge 📢

The Jenkins Fire Department is aware that the bridge closure is going to be problematic for us as it interferes with a main passage way for our district traveling east/west in the heart of our area. This practically splits our district in half. We are taking steps to stage vehicles/equipment to evenly provide coverage to both sides.

Our neighboring fire departments are aware of our situation and have graciously agreed to provide assistance during this difficult time. The Jenkins Fire Department plans to use the local roads (backroads) to try to speed up response times instead of using the detour route of HWY 76.

This project though it will be problematic for the district during construction will greatly benefit the community in the long run. We hope the community understands and shows support and demonstrates the great community we are.

🚧 Major Road Closure 🚧

Beginning March 2, 2026, the one lane bridge on Hwy 248 near the intersection of Hwy 39 will be closed for the placement of a new bridge.

This will be a permanent closure (24/7) until completion. The estimated time frame is 120 days, but weather may impact the project.

The proposed detour provided by MoDOT is to take Hwy 76 for those traveling east/west bound.

Allow extra time for your commuting.

People are asked to avoid the construction zone both by land and water.

We would like to thank everyone that attended our fish fry on Saturday night. We had a great turnout!

I would also like to thank all of our volunteers, auxiliary members, and citizens that helped us with everything it takes to put this on. There is a lot of time and hard work that goes into this event. If you missed it, you missed a good time and great food.
