Yesterday, Aurora EMS had the opportunity to partner with the Dillsboro Police Department to visit the first graders at Dillsboro Elementary School for a fun and educational bike safety program! 🚴‍♂️🚴‍♀️

Students learned the importance of bike safety, including wearing helmets, following traffic rules, and staying aware while riding. Teaching these habits at a young age helps keep our community’s children safe while having fun outdoors.

To wrap up the event, two lucky students were surprised with brand new bicycles! Seeing the excitement on their faces made the day even more special.

Aurora EMS would like to thank Dillsboro Police Department and Dillsboro Elementary School for helping make this event possible. We love opportunities to connect with our community and help promote safety for the next generation! đź’™

In EMS, no one works alone.

Every emergency response depends on teamwork — from dispatchers answering the call, to first responders arriving on scene, to EMS crews providing care, and hospital staff continuing treatment. Each person plays an important role in improving patient outcomes.

At Aurora EMS, we are thankful for the strong partnerships we share with local fire departments, law enforcement agencies, hospitals, and neighboring EMS services. Working together allows us to provide the best possible care for our community every day. So we would like to take today to recognize our great partners.

This week, we proudly recognize and celebrate the dedicated EMTs, Paramedics, dispatchers, firefighters, first responders, and healthcare partners who serve our community every single day.

EMS Week is a time to honor the commitment, compassion, and teamwork that goes into providing emergency medical care — whether it’s during life-threatening emergencies, accidents, illnesses, or moments when someone simply needs help the most.

At Aurora EMS, we are incredibly proud of our crews and thankful for the continued support from the communities we serve. Your trust allows us to do what we love every day: helping others.

Throughout the week, we’ll be sharing posts highlighting different aspects of EMS, our providers, training, teamwork, and the impact EMS has in our community.

Thank you to all EMS professionals everywhere for your service, sacrifice, and dedication. đź’™

Please join us in congratulating our very own Bill Wooderson on being recognized as the 2026 Dillsboro Homecoming Festival EMS Provider of the Year!

This award reflects Bill’s dedication, professionalism, and commitment to serving our community every day. Last year while working Responder 5 in Dillsboro, Bill responded to a cardiac arrest call where his quick actions, skill, and calm leadership helped save a life. Because of the outstanding care provided on scene, that patient was able to walk out of the hospital and return home to their family.

Moments like these remind us how important EMS professionals are to the communities they serve. We are proud to have Bill as part of the Aurora EMS family and grateful for the compassion and excellence he brings to the job every shift.

Congratulations, Bill, and thank you for everything you do for our patients and community! đźš‘

Aurora EMS is proud to officially begin our journey as an NAEMT Training Facility!

This past weekend, we hosted our very first class, PHTLS (Prehospital Trauma Life Support). PHTLS is one of the world’s leading prehospital trauma education programs, designed to provide EMS professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively assess and manage trauma patients in the field.

As an official NAEMT Training Facility, Aurora EMS is committed to bringing high-quality, evidence-based education opportunities to our providers and surrounding agencies. Programs like PHTLS help strengthen critical thinking, improve patient care, and ultimately lead to better outcomes for the communities we serve.

We are excited to continue expanding training opportunities for EMS professionals throughout our region and are proud to invest in the future of prehospital medicine.

Thank you to everyone who helped make our first course a success!

Yesterday, Aurora EMS was proud to partner with Ohio County agencies to participate in a drunk driving awareness demonstration for the students of Rising Sun High School ahead of prom season.

The demonstration highlighted the very real and devastating consequences that can result from impaired driving. While prom is a night students look forward to for months, one bad decision can change lives forever.

We are thankful for the opportunity to work alongside our community partners to help educate students and encourage safe choices during prom weekend. We hope every student had a memorable night and, most importantly, made it home safely.

- Don’t drink and drive.
- Call for a safe ride.
- Take care of your friends.
- Make smart choices.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this event possible and for allowing us to be part of such an important message.

Last week, members of our department traveled to FDIC International in Indianapolis, one of the largest fire and EMS conferences in the country.

While there, our crews spent time exploring the expo floor, checking out the latest apparatus, equipment, and technology in the fire and EMS world. Events like FDIC give us the chance to see what’s new in the industry, connect with others in the field, and bring back ideas that can help us continue improving our service to the community.

We’re proud to invest in opportunities that keep us informed, progressive, and ready to serve.

Responder 5 – One Year in Service!

This week marks one full year of Responder 5 serving the Dillsboro community as our ALS non-transport unit, ensuring no one goes without immediate, advanced EMS care when seconds matter most.

In just one year, Responder 5 has answered 578 calls for service.

A few insights from those runs:
• Sick Person calls led the way with 136 responses
• Falls accounted for 65 calls
• Breathing Problems (57) and Chest Pain (30) highlight the critical need for rapid ALS care
• Unconscious Patients (25) and Strokes (22) show how often life-threatening emergencies occur
• Lift Assists (24) continue to be an important way we support our community beyond emergencies

From cardiac events to traumatic injuries, Responder 5 has been there, bringing advanced care directly to the patient when transport units may be tied up.

This unit was created with one goal in mind: faster care, better outcomes, and stronger coverage for Dillsboro. One year in, it’s clear that mission is being fulfilled every single day.

Huge credit to the crews who staff Responder 5 and the dedication they bring to every call.

Thank you to Dillsboro Volunteer Fire Department for allowing us to use their department to have a station to run out of!

Here’s to another year of service, readiness, and making a difference when it matters most.

It’s Public Safety Telecommunications Appreciation Week… so Aurora EMS would like to take a moment to formally apologize to our dispatchers at Dearborn County 911.

We’re sorry for every time we key up with “uhhh…” and then figure out what we’re saying halfway through.

We’re sorry for all the “one more things” that turn into five more things.

We’re sorry for asking you to repeat traffic… and then immediately talking over you when you do.

We’re sorry for the radio checks, status updates, and the occasional unit that “forgot” to clear.

And yes… we’re especially sorry for those second-out calls where everyone suddenly has a question at the exact same time.

But in all seriousness, you are the calm in the middle of Aurora’s chaos. You keep track of every unit, every call, and every detail, all while handling phones that never seem to stop ringing.

You are the true first, first responders, and the reason everything we do runs as smoothly as it does.

We give you a hard time… but we couldn’t do this job without you.

Thank you for everything you do, today and every day.
