Our Vision
To be the model of excellence for burial and memorials for our Veterans and families. The Fort Custer National Cemetery (FCNC) was named after General George Armstrong Custer, a native of Michigan. Prior to FCNC establishment stood the Original Camp Custer, built in 1917, as part of a mobilization effort for World War I, on 130 parcels leased to the Government by the local Chamber of Co
mmerce. Establishment of the first post took place Sept. 18, 1943, for the first interment. Section "A" for the Enlisted and Section "O", for the Officers. In the early 60's local politicians and Veteran Organizations advocated for a National Cemetery and in 1982 Fort Custer National Cemetery was Established, receiving 566 acres from the Military Reservation and 203 acres from the VA Medical Facility. As you may come to FCNC, you may have noticed the Avenue of Flags, there are 152 of them, which are donated by families from the interments of the veterans, cared for by a Flag crew that comes to inspect and make any repairs when needed. FCNC has Congressional permission to be flown at full staff and un-light. Thank you, and Please do come and visit our beautiful Cemetery.
