Maine's 195th Army Band summer tour dates
Free and open to the public

BANGOR, MAINE (06/27/2023) (readMedia)-- Members of the 195th Army Band will be performing their annual series of concerts around the state starting on July 2 and continuing through July 13.

"We hope our friends and neighbors will consider adding one of the 195th's nearby concerts to their holiday plans," said Maj. Gen. Douglas Farnham, Maine's adjutant general. "As our musical ambassadors, they have been practicing hard as always. We appreciate communities' reaching out to invite us to be a part of their festivities, whether concerts like these, or supporting patriotic parades and ceremonies. A very Happy Independence Day from your friends and neighbors at the Maine National Guard!"

2023 Summer Tour Dates:

July 2 – 12:00pm – American Legion Post 105, Newport

July 3 – 6:00pm – L.L. Bean Stage, Freeport

July 4 – 7:00pm – Seaside Pavilion, Old Orchard Beach

July 5 – 5:30pm – Town Hall, Brunswick

July 12 – 6:00pm – Waterfront Park, Bangor

July 13 – 6:30pm – Binette Park, Old Town

All concerts are free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to check the Army Band website ahead of time to ensure no changes have been made. Any additions to the schedule will also appear on the website.

Committee , Mr. Michael Splane and Mr. Peter Brunette (not pictured), presented the PATRIOTIC EMPLOYER AWARD to Dr. Monika Bissell, President, . This prestigious award nominated by Alex Clifford, PhD also a Command Sergeant Major in the , recognizes the patriotic support from his supervisor and team during his recent year long deployment to Poland by stating, "Dr. Bissell set the organization tone to ensure all military personnel and students receive the support needed upon all military obligations. Without fail, the employees of the college rally around the workload that needs to be completed by the Service Member that is attending military training. Upon long deployments, employees continue to step forward to fill those needs without hesitation." Wow! Great teams are guided by great leaders!

Maine Committee , Mr. Michael Splane presented the Award to Mr. Jeff Walawnder for supporting his employee and CPT Katelyn Allen of the 101st Air Refueling Wing, Bangor, ME. Captain Allen carries two "big sticks"; one at the in Portland, Maine and one as an officer. Captain Katelyn Allen nominated her supervisor Mr. Walawender of the VA in Portland for his ongoing support for her dual commitment to both and her full time civilian career. Captain Allen told , "I was recently tasked to attend professional military education in residence which took me away from my full time position for five weeks. My supervisor (Mr. Walanwender) supported my personal and professional goals which allowed me to grow and develop into a more comprehensive professional. Since my position directly supports patient care and there was a manning shortage, my team stepped up to make sure continuity of care was maintained and all patients were well taken care of. I have never been made to feel guilty of my or need to take accrued time off from work to fulfill my obligations. My supervisor (Mr. Walawender) is new to supporting a member of the National Guard and has been willing to learn about the process to streamline all paperwork required for documenting my absence." has provided outstanding support to their military service member Sergeant James Barlow of the 619th Truck Company, , Auburn, Maine. Sergeant Barlow was deployed with his unit for a year and his supervisor, Mr. Josh Benthien provided a smooth transition for his employee, James Barlow to return from his military duty back to his full time position with ease. Mr. Michael Splane presented the Patriotic Employer Award to Mr. Benthien.
