We're soaking up the sunshine and reflecting on what a fantastic week of learning we had last week with Camp Read & Ride Roundup! These kiddos worked hard on their reading skills all week and had a lot of fun in the process.

It's always amazing hearing from the parents and caregivers of clients all the ways our programs have an impact. Check out one of the testimonials we received about last weeks camp:

"We are incredibly grateful for the experience our son had at the Cheff Therapeutic Riding Center through their Summer Read & Ride program. From start to finish, the Cheff staff, volunteers, and camp administrators created an environment that was kind, caring, thoughtful, and truly dedicated to making learning both educational and fun.

What makes this program so special is the way it blends movement, connection and learning. While in the arena, the kids are not only learning how to ride, but also building critical reading skills through engaging, hands-on activities. Throughout the week, they participated in reading games, read to therapy dogs, and took part in creative lessons that made reading come alive.

One of the most memorable moments for us happened on the second evening. *our son* was so excited to tell me about a reading game he played while riding his horse, Jake. He proudly explained how he learned about the “magic e” and how it changes the way words are read. You could see the moment it clicked for him - it truly unlocked something in his brain.

That night, we created our own game at home so he could show off his new skill. Watching him confidently apply what he learned and realizing that he could figure out words on his own was an indescribable feeling. As a parent, those are the moments you hope for: when learning becomes exciting, empowering and fun.

Thanks to this program, *our son's* confidence in reading has skyrocketed in just one week. The impact goes far beyond the arena. It’s something he will carry with him moving forward.

We cannot recommend this experience highly enough. Cheff is doing something truly special, and we feel so fortunate to have been a part of it."

*Big thanks going out to the Read & Ride Roundup team, therapy dogs (and their handlers!) and all the volunteers that made this special experience possible!

🔥*WEATHER WEEK*🔥
Cheff is CANCELING remaining Therapeutic Riding classes this week (Tuesday-Thursday) due to heat and humidity. The horses are struggling and the humans aren’t faring much better!

If you’re curious on how we make the call, check out the heat infographic below. For the safety of everyone involved in our programs, we usually call classes at the number 160.

Shout out to Josh and John for taking a quick break from the Arena construction to help patch up poor Gus’ stall! There was a slight “disagreement” in the back lot which resulted in a couple broken boards- fixed in a flash!

We had an exciting week at Cheff last week!

We officially broke ground on the Suzanne UD Parish Therapy Arena, celebrating the start of an exciting new chapter for the organization and culmination of our Raise the Roof capital campaign!

With sunshine overhead and plenty of smiles to go around, staff, board members, and community partners gathered for a small but meaningful ceremony to mark the moment. Cabinet members and staff were joined by representatives from CSM Group and Consumers Credit Union, all coming together to celebrate the project getting underway.

“This has been a long time coming, and it was so special to share the moment with people who have helped make it possible,” said Tara East, Executive Director.

Rooted in Cheff’s mission to enhance the lives of individuals who have disabilities through equine-assisted services while leading the industry in education, the Suzanne UD Parish Therapy Arena will play a key role in expanding access to care. The new space is designed to support targeted mental health services and hippotherapy programming, helping meet a growing need within the community for innovative, relationship-based approaches to wellness and healing.

As demand for these services continues to rise, the arena will allow Cheff to serve more individuals and families in a safe, accessible, and purpose-built environment.

Now that construction has officially begun, there’s a real sense of excitement in the air as everyone looks forward to watching the arena take shape.
