Audubon Fire & Rescue recently hosted the Art of Reading Smoke class, taught by Jerry Eslick with Professional Rescue Innovations. We were proud to train alongside members from Brayton Fire Department, Exira Fire & Rescue, and Kimballton Fire.

This class focused on giving firefighters the ability to interpret smoke as a critical indicator of fire behavior. By understanding smoke, crews can better identify fire location, determine the stage of the fire, recognize flow path development, and anticipate potential for rapid fire growth.

Beyond fire behavior, the training strengthens key operational skills including:
• Improved size-up accuracy
• Stronger tactical decision-making
• Enhanced crew safety and survivability

Opportunities like this help bridge the gap between foundational training and real-world fireground application.

We would like to extend a sincere thank you to Professional Rescue Innovations for delivering this outstanding class, and to the Iowa Fire Service Training Bureau for providing the funding to bring this valuable training directly to our community.

Severe weather season is right around the corner, and you can play an important role in helping protect our community. We invite community members to attend our Storm Spotter Training Class to learn how to identify severe weather and report it to the National Weather Service.

$4,663 Raised for Audubon Fire & Rescue
AGRILAND FS donated $4,663 to Audubon Fire & Rescue as a result of its Audubon FAST STOP location Fuel Up & Give Back pilot program that ran from October 1, 2025, to January 31, 2026.

(AUDUBON, IA) February 10, 2026 – On Tuesday, February 10, representatives from AGRILAND FS presented a check for $4,663 to Audubon Fire & Rescue at Audubon Community School District high school between the varsity basketball games. These funds were raised during the Fuel Up & Give Back pilot program where 3¢ for every gallon of gas and diesel fuel sold at their Audubon FAST STOP® location was donated directly to the fire department, who will determine how the funds will be allocated.

“Thank you to AGRILAND FS and everyone who fueled up to give back to our department,” said Tyler Thygesen, Fire Chief at the Audubon Fire & Rescue. “Proceeds from this campaign will help support our new fire station project which will help us better serve and protect the Audubon community.”

AGRILAND FS currently has 18 FAST STOP gas stations located in 17 communities across southern Iowa and northwest Missouri. The success of this pilot program has led AGRILAND FS to launch phase three of the program that will donate 3¢ per gallon to the local community school districts in each of those 17 communities. This third phase of the program will run from March 1, 2026, to June 30, 2026.

“The Fuel Up & Give Back program has been a great opportunity for our community fire departments. It became clear that our customers found value in the program and have been supportive of it,” said Ross Knobloch, Director of Energy at AGRILAND FS. “As a local business, we are proud we could give back to the Audubon Fire & Rescue, and we look forward to kicking off phase three of the Fuel Up & Give Back program and supporting our communities that fuel up at our FAST STOP locations.”

The AGRILAND FS Audubon FAST STOP gas pumps are located at 214 N Market Street and are open to the public 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Fuel can be purchased at the pumps using any major credit card, debit card, or the AGRILAND FS proprietary FAST STOP charge card that gives users loyalty savings per gallon on their statement when the FAST STOP Card is used at any of the 18 AGRILAND FS-branded FAST STOP locations.
