🇺🇸 🇺🇸 W E L C O M E H O M E 🇺🇸 🇺🇸
National Vietnam War Veterans Day is observed annually on March 29 to honor the service and sacrifice of veterans who served during the Vietnam War. This day ensures a proper "Welcome Home" for veterans who often returned to a divided nation without recognition, marking the day the last combat troops left Vietnam in 1973.

Pictured here Mayor Giannettino presents the 2026 Welcome Home Day proclamation to U.S. Marines former Mayor Michael D. Quill and Mr. Dale Bush.

A 60 plus year tradition in the City of Auburn continued today with the annual raising of the Irish Flag ceremony. Today we celebrated the importance of Irish immigration to our city and country, and recognize that America is and always should be a nation of immigrants.

Yesterday evening I had the opportunity to moderate Congressman John Mannion’s Auburn/Cayuga County Town Hall Meeting at Cayuga Community College. The public that attended asked a range of questions from local to national issues. The conversation was civil and respectful, which is not always the case at these events in the current political environment. I want to the thank the public who showed up and Congressman Mannion for engaging with our community.

Today, 113 years ago, Harriet Tubman passed away at the age of 91 in Auburn, NY. March 10, also known as Harriet Tubman Day, encourages us to reflect on Tubman’s legacy and journey towards freedom. Born enslaved on the Eastern Shore of Maryland in March 1822, Tubman would later self-emancipate. She then made 13 trips back to the area where she risked losing her own freedom to free more than 70 family members and close friends via the Underground Railroad.

Tubman dedicated her life to liberation, community and grassroots leadership. Mary B. Talbert, president of the Empire State Federation of Women’s Clubs, described her as one who “fought a good fight, truly finished her course, truly kept the faith, and received that crown of righteousness, given only to the faithful.”

It was nice catching up with Auburn High and SUNY Albany graduate James Cuddy at the annual New York Conference of Mayor’s meeting in Albany. James is currently a staffer for New York State Senator Monica Martinez.

Today we recognize what would have been Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s 97th birthday.
His contributions to our nation have an enduring legacy.
A civil rights leader, nonviolent activist, powerful speaker, minister, and a Nobel Peace Prize winner in 1964. Dr. King embodied American ideals centered around equality and equality.
