DEKALB COUNTY CENTRAL COMMUNICATIONS
NOW HIRING 911 DISPATCHERS
Want to work in a profession that is exciting all while not believing what you are hearing on the other end of the phone? Well, we have the job for you!
At DeKalb County Central Communications, you become the voice between emergency and response—the calm in the middle of someone else’s worst day. You will hear things you can’t make up, see nothing, and still know everything that matters in that moment. Oh, should we include that we have a full kitchen where you can cook real food instead of the typical microwavable dinner like at other places of employment?
This job is serious.
But if you can handle serious, you might as well have a sense of humor too.
Think this job is for you? Here are the requirements.
-Must be 18 years of age or older
(We checked. 17 and a half does not count, no matter how confident you feel.)
-High School Diploma or GED required
-Must type at least 35 WPM
(Hunt-and-peck is allowed, but we will silently judge you.)
Applicants must survive:
-Typing Test
-Written Examination
-Oral Interviews
-Hearing & Vision Testing
(Yes, you do actually need to see and hear things. We checked that too.)
Applicants must also pass:
-Polygraph Examination
(Yes, we will ask if you’ve ever exaggerated your typing speed.)
-Psychological Evaluation
(No, “I’m fine” is not the official answer key.)
-Drug Screen
-Comprehensive Background Investigation
(If it shows up on Google, assume we already saw it.)
SCHEDULE
-Pitman Shift Schedule
12-Hour Shifts
6:00 AM – 6:00 PM
or
6:00 PM – 6:00 AM
-Every other weekend off.
Warning: Night shift may cause you to lose track of what day it is, what meal you’re on, and whether sunlight is still real.
PAY & BENEFITS
-Starting pay: $24/hour
Benefits include:
-Health Insurance
-Pension
-Paid Time Off
-Job stability
-And the ability to say “I’ve seen things” in a very literal sense
WHAT YOU’RE SIGNING UP FOR
You will be the voice on the line when everything is on fire, literally or emotionally.
You will talk people through emergencies, coordinate police, fire, and EMS, and juggle radio traffic like it’s a sport nobody else wants to play.
Some calls will make you laugh later.
Some will make you go quiet in the car ride home.
And some will make you question how people are still allowed to operate heavy machinery.
But through it all—you are the calm voice.
Also, you will become very good at typing while someone is yelling directions, crying, and giving you 14 landmarks that all sound like “turn left at the big maple tree near Jim Bobs big old barn.”
