United Way of DeKalb County

United Way of DeKalb County UNITED IS THE WAY TO LASTING LOCAL CHANGE. The United Way of DeKalb County, Inc. was originally organized by a small group of community visionaries in 1960. Oren.

Mission: United Way of DeKalb County brings people and resources together to build a healthier community, expand opportunities for youth, strengthen financial security, and foster a resilient, connected DeKalb County. Vision: We envision a DeKalb County where every person has the opportunity to reach their full potential, supported by a united community working together to create lasting change. Values Statement: At United Way of DeKalb County, our work is grounded in these core values:

Collaboration: We believe lasting change happens when we bring the community together around shared goals. Community Impact: We are focused on measurable results that strengthen the foundations of a healthy, secure, and resilient DeKalb County. Compassion: We approach our work with empathy, always striving to uplift individuals and families with dignity and respect. Integrity: We are transparent, accountable, and driven by a deep sense of responsibility to our community and partners. Today, the United Way of DeKalb County is able to help fund multiple agencies and programs within DeKalb County through our ALICE and Community Impact grants. The United Way of DeKalb County is also a member of United Way Worldwide and Indiana United Ways.

THEREโ€™S MORE THAN ONE WAY TO GIVE.

Making a difference in DeKalb County isnโ€™t only about making a donation.

Sometimes, it looks like giving your time.
Sometimes, itโ€™s sharing your ideas.
Sometimes, itโ€™s bringing your skills and talents to the table.
And sometimes, itโ€™s simply saying, โ€œHow can I help?โ€ ๐Ÿ’™

At United Way of DeKalb County, volunteers play an important role in the work we do. Our committees bring people from across the community together to help plan events, strengthen outreach, guide community investments, support fundraising efforts, and help us create lasting local impact.

Whether you love planning events, connecting with people, digging into numbers, talking about community needs, or simply rolling up your sleeves and getting things done, thereโ€™s a place for you at the table.

Our volunteer committees include opportunities to get involved with Power of the Purse, Day of Caring, United fore Impact, Marketing, Community Impact, Finance, and Development.

You donโ€™t have to have a certain title or background to make a difference. You just need a willingness to bring what you have to the table and work alongside others who care about DeKalb County.

๐Ÿ’™ Give your time.
๐Ÿ’ก Give your ideas.
๐Ÿค Give your talents.
โค๏ธ Give back to your community.

Interested in learning more about serving on a UWDC committee? Send us a message or connect with our team. Weโ€™d love to help you find the right fit!

Because when we each bring something to the table, we can accomplish more UNITED.

MISSION MONDAY | What Does Your Dollar Do? ๐Ÿ’™

When you give to United Way of DeKalb County, even a few dollars a month can become something meaningful for someone right here in our community.

What could your monthly gift help make possible?

๐Ÿ“š $5/month can provide two children with a year of books through Dolly Parton's Imagination Library.
๐Ÿฅซ $10/month can provide one-time food assistance for a single parent and child.
๐Ÿ’ก $15/month can provide utility assistance for a family for a month.
๐ŸŽ“ $20/month can provide training opportunities for 10 people to improve their job skills.
๐Ÿ  $50/month can provide domestic violence survivors a safe place to heal and grow.
๐Ÿ’Š $100/month can provide clients with vital medication for two months.

But here's what makes giving UNITED powerful:

Your gift doesn't stand alone.

It joins gifts from neighbors, employees, businesses, and organizations across DeKalb County. Together, those dollars are invested in local programs creating measurable impact for our neighbors.

Whether it's $5, $10, $20, or $100 a month, every gift becomes part of something bigger. Your gift matters. Your community matters. Your impact matters.

September 11 | National Day of Service and Remembrance

Today, we remember. And we honor through service.

On September 11, we pause to remember the lives lost, the families forever changed, and the first responders and everyday heroes who showed extraordinary courage in the face of unimaginable tragedy.

September 11 is also recognized as a National Day of Service and Remembrance, encouraging Americans to honor those we lost by doing something good for someone else and strengthening the communities we call home.

At United Way of DeKalb County, we see the power of service firsthand. ๐Ÿ’™

We see it when neighbors pick up a hammer to help another neighbor. When volunteers give their time to a local nonprofit. When coworkers spend a day improving a place that serves our community. And when hundreds of people come together during Day of Caring with one shared purpose: to make DeKalb County stronger.

Today, as we remember September 11, we also honor the spirit of unity, compassion and service that brought people together in the days that followed.

May we continue to carry that spirit forward, not only today, but every day.

We remember. We serve. We remain united.

๐Ÿ“š September 8 | International Literacy Day

Today is International Literacy Day! ๐Ÿ“–๐Ÿ’™

At United Way of DeKalb County, we believe literacy is more than learning how to read. It opens doors to learning, confidence, opportunity, and a brighter future.

And building those skills starts early.

Through Dolly Partonโ€™s Imagination Library, DeKalb County children can begin building their own home libraries from birth, receiving a free, age-appropriate book in the mail each month until their fifth birthday. ๐Ÿ“ฌ๐Ÿ“š

As children get ready to take that next big step into school, our Kindergarten Countdown investments help local school districts provide incoming kindergarteners with opportunities to strengthen early literacy and other school-readiness skills before they enter the classroom.

And the work doesn't stop there.

Every book read together, every new word learned, every teacher who encourages a student, and every opportunity we create for children to learn helps build a stronger foundation for their future.

Because when we invest in literacy, we invest in opportunity. ๐Ÿ’™

Today, celebrate International Literacy Day by doing something simple: read with a child. Share a favorite book. Encourage a young reader. Those little moments can have a lasting impact.
